“Finding points of interest (POI) was sublimely easy, and worked exactly as we wanted it to, showing us POIs that were closest to us first and quickly locking onto their locations. We also tried a wide sample of POIs to see if we could find something that wasn’t in the database, but the Nav740 never let us down. Even if the particular company or place wasn’t in the pre-defined alphabetical list that shows up on-screen, we were able to get to places like Subway by manually typing the name. Our only gripe is that the Food listing is on the second page rather than the first, which requires an extra click every time you want to get to it…Highs:Easy to use; simple interface; tells you name of roads to turn onto. Lows:Daylight glare makes the screen hard to see; setting Home point needs to be made easier.”

“The NAV740 is probably the fastest GPS I have ever used. It picks up the Sat signal faster than my Cell phone, HP iPaq GPS unit I am testing, and the Tom-tom my sister has. I often found myself waiting up to 5 minutes for the GPS to pick up a signal, but that wasn’t a problem at all with the 740. ”

“The NAV740 does a nice job of handling POIs. On the first screen, you’ll find icons for 8 of the 11 top-level POI categories: Favorites, Services, Transportation, Shopping, Entertainment, Culture, Sports, and Emergency/Government. The second screen has the remaining three categories: Food/Drink, Lodging, and Artificial Landmarks. I would have preferred to have Food & Drink and Lodging on the first screen, since, for me, those are probably the most frequently used categories. Each top-level category has subcategories to refine your search, or you can search all by name. The shopping subcategories also include 278 branded stores, such as Best Buy and Amazon.com, Fry’s, Newegg.com and Staples, along with many others. ”
