Toshiba HD-A2 Reviews
Audioholics reviews the Toshiba HD-A2 and writes;
“The Film resolution loss test had some flashing, but not int he critical areas of the test. What we found was that horizontal movements may bring about some concerns with fine vertical lines on displays that aren’t fully 1080p-compatible (such as our reference 720p displays). This isn’t a major concern for us, nor should it be for the consumer.”

CNET reviews the Toshiba HD-A2 and writes;
“The good: Relatively inexpensive; excellent image quality on HD DVD; solid upscaling performance on DVDs; Ethernet jack for firmware upgrades; onboard Dolby TrueHD decoding; much faster load times than its predecessor. The bad: No 1080p output; HD DVD could lose the format war; no multichannel analog outputs. The bottom line: Offering most of the performance of more expensive players, the HD-A2 is an excellent value for budget-minded buyers looking to jump into HD DVD. ”

PCWorld reviews the Toshiba HD-A2 and writes;
“At $500, the HD-A2 is the least expensive stand-alone high-def player–for now. If you opt for that low price, however, you’ll be making sacrifices in resolution and audio. If you’re basing your decision on price, keep an eye out for specials–you may be able to find other players, such as the Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray Disc player, that offer superior, noninterlaced image performance for not too much more.”

HDTVExpert reviews the Toshiba HD-A2 and writes;
“With 1080i component or HDMI connections, images were clean as a whistle — plenty of picture detail, no obvious interlacing artifacts, and no motion problems. Selecting 720p or 480p output mode degraded picture quality considerably. ”

UltimateAV reviews the Toshiba HD-A2 and writes;
“For many, the better choice for now would be to forego the advanced audio codecs and buy the A2 for a better user experience and the perfect excuse for a future upgrade to an HDMI-capable receiver!”
