RegHardware reviews the Sony VAIO VGN-UX1XN (rating: 73%) and writes;

“Sony has done its best to fit a usable keyboard into such a small space, but ultimately it’s just not big enough for prolonged use. The screen, to some degree, also suffers from the same problem. It would be hard to include anything larger, without increasing the overall size of the unit, but it feels a bit too cramped… There’s no denying the UX1 is an impressive feat of engineering, packing a full Vista PC into such a small space. However, its main limitation is its physical size, restricting its usability. It’s great to use on the go, but you’ll probably want something else as well for more prolonged use. As it costs the best part of £2,000, it’s a luxury only the particularly well off are likely to be able to afford. “

TrustedReviews reviews the Sony VAIO VGN-UX390N (rating: 7/10) and writes;

“The UX1XN is certainly a highly desirable thing. Getting Vista to run in an acceptable fashion on a device this small is a feat in itself, but its impressive, notebook-like specification and decent battery life, coupled with very compact dimensions and light weight make it a much less intrusive companion than most full-blown laptops. It can also comfortably be used as a desktop machine hooked up to a keyboard mouse and monitor via the cradle. But it isn’t perfect: further thought needs to go into the resolution of the screen and how to manage those tall dialog boxes, the keyboard needs a complete redesign before it becomes anywhere near usable and the solid state disk is just a bit too small. At such a high price the UX1XN isn’t intended to appeal to appeal to the mass market. But even as an executive toy and a technological showcase for solid state disk technology I can’t help but be a touch disappointed.”

LaptopMag have reviewed the Sony VAIO VGN-UX390N where they rate the device 3/5 and write;

“The UX390N contains two Motion Eye digital cameras…The image quality of videos and photos image wasn’t stellar, but it’s still superior to most cell phone cameras and is a cool multimedia feature…We managed 3 hours and 40 minutes of battery life under normal working conditions, which included wireless Web surfing, exploring the features of Vista, and snapping the occasional photo or two. We even managed to view a few streamed videos, which looked great on the little widescreen display. Another plus: The built-in speakers sounded surprisingly full and can compete with output from many full-sized laptop speakers.”

CNET have reviewed the Sony VAIO VGN-UX390N where they rate the device 7.5/10 and write;

“The good: Improved battery life; solid-state hard drive; multiple interface options. The bad: Nontactile keyboard; some navigation keys are hard to use; expensive. The bottom line: The pocket-size Sony VAIO UX390 makes solid improvements over the first generation of UMPCs, but its target audience is unclear. “
