The Sony Ericsson Z550i or so called Z550a (American version) is a Quad Band GPRS clamshell phone featuring a 1.3 Megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and bright 262k colour display. Sony Ericsson Z550i also comes with 25 MB of onboard memory, expandable to 1 GB with Memory Stick Micro (M2) support, MMS as well as Bluetooth and email.

“The Z550i gave me no problems when it came to voice calls. Using the phone on the GSM 1800MHz network worked well and I experienced no dropped calls or poor reception…Battery life is another area where the Z550i excels. The phone lasted about 4 days before having to be recharged, with roughly 30 minutes of calls each day and quite a lot of SMS messaging, taking pictures, and GPRS usage. However, using Bluetooth frequently brought that duration down to about 2 days. When left on standby, the phone’s battery usually lasted up to a week.”
CNET reviews the Sony Ericsson Z550i, they rated the phone 6.5/10 and write:
“The good: Solid construction and chic design, Good balance of business and fun. The bad:Top buttons sometimes stopped responding when phone was opened quickly, Phone not optimised for the Web and music features it offers.The bottomline:The Z550i is a chic but sensible lower-end phone that does the basics well and adds a sprinkling of extras. We’d rate it higher if not for a significant text-related performance problem.”

“The Z550i is truly a very compact phone – it measures only 88х45х20 mm in size and weights 92.5 grams. The holes for a carrying strap are located on the left. Generally speaking, having this phone around causes only positive emotions owing to it feeling quite solid and exposing no gaps and on top of that the Z550i can be carried in any desired fashion.”
