ComputerActive reviews the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“in low lighting, the HD magic starts to wear off, and we were disappointed to find in such conditions the recording suffered from increased fuzziness and dull colours. …Overall An extremely light and compact camera with reasonably good features. However, those who want quality over quantity may need to look a little bit further.”

LaptopMag reviews the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“A speedy startup time (1.5 seconds) allows quick shooting from a dead stop. And you can quickly import video files to a PC or Mac; iPhoto and Picasa recognized the camera immediately, and dragging and dropping files was easy since the cam shows up as a removable drive. …Sanyo’s new cam is far better than the last, to the point where the $700 list price looks like a bargain. We’d be happy to carry one to any event worth shooting. ”

PCWorld reviews the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“The VPC-HD2 did a better job as a digital still camera. It earned the highest overall score for still-photo quality among the four high-def camcorders, and it earned the highest score for color accuracy, sharpness, and lack of distortion. Its battery performed adequately, lasting for 85 minutes in our test.”

DigitalTrends reviews the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“Recording video is as easy as can be. Just hit the movie key and you’re in business. Placement of the zoom switch was good, making for simple one-handed operation. .. The search for a really good two-in-one imaging device continues. The VPC-HD2 is not the Holy Grail, not even a Monty Python version of it. In fact I suggest you pick it up at the store, marvel at its small size then put it back down. Then if you can afford the extra cash, buy a 1080i HD camcorder from Panasonic, Sony or Canon. ”

CamcorderInfo reviews the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“While video performance is not great, it does show some improvements over last year’s VPC-HD1, especially in terms of color performance. Unfortunately, handling and working with this camcorder is incredibly frustrating. Without a live preview, it is virtually impossible to make use of the respectable suite of manual image adjustments. The 2.2” screen is small and cramped, the joystick and zoom are undersized and difficult to use, and the menu structure and control interface suffers from fundamental design flaws.”
CNET.UK reviews the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“When it finally focused and shot, the camcorder’s video came out soft and washed out. Even when viewed on an HDTV over an HDMI cable, fine details are obscured and colours appear bland and undersaturated. The footage is still high definition and will appear as such on any HDTV, but it doesn’t look nearly as crisp as footage from higher-end hi-def camcorders…Price certainly plays a factor, but even the less expensive camera-turned-HD-camcorder Canon PowerShot TX1 offers clearer high-definition video than the VPC-HD2. The VPC-HD2 produces decent footage and won’t ruin your home movies with poor quality, but you can find better video elsewhere.”

CamcorderInfo has a preview of the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“…It produces large and very good looking stills – and above all, it’s a truly pocket-sized camcorder that will fit in many women’s jeans pockets – an achievement that no other cam we’ve reviewed matches. Unfortunately, if last year’s tests of the HD1 are an indicator of the HD2’s video performance, this will be a similarly compromised product. Last year, we found the video performance and resolution to be disappointing. Colors were too saturated, and in-camera sharpening resulted in muddy edges. “
CNET reviews the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 and writes;
“The good: Small and light design; can shoot stills and video at the same time. The bad: Soft, bland video quality; slow to focus; irritating control stick. The bottom line: The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 fits high-def video and 7-megapixel stills into a very small package, but its image quality disappoints.”

Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 Features
The Sanyo VPC-HD2 Xacti Media Camera
with 10x Optical Zoom is a high-definition compact digital media device that combines both the functionality of a digital camera and a digital camcorder. Different than a standard digital camera that shoots short video clips, the VPC-HD2 offers advanced, next-generation video performance and high-quality stills in one small, lightweight camera. This powerful little device is designed to record both 720-pixel high-definition video and 7-megapixel digital still images, all of which are handily stored to a convenient SD or SDHC memory card.
1280 x 720 Progressive HD Video Scanning
Thanks to highly efficient MPEG-4 technology, the HD2 is able to create high-definition 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) videos at 30 frames per second. That’s up to three times more pixels than standard conventional video cameras . These are richly detailed images that will display beautifully on any big screen TV.
