Samsung BlackJack II (i617) Reviews

PDAstreet reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

” The Blackjack II comes with a charger, USB cable, and replaceable battery. Battery life, one of the few sticking points with the original model, has been improved. Expect to get a big 7 hours of talk time or 14 days of standby. Besides the battery, several small improvements make the Blackjack II more of a pleasure to use. For one, the camera has been improved from 1.3 to 2 megapixels, resulting in more detailed images. Also, the phone now includes a GPS chip built-in. ”

Digital Trends reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“Phone calls are straightforward and clear, and the equally effective email system works with AOL, Yahoo! and others. The same goes for Instant Messenger. The 2-megapixel camera isn’t so bad for a phone, but any photos or video requires a good, consistent light source…Highs:Simple to use; stylish and compact; affordable. Lows:Poor video quality; inconsistent media downloading; headphones are not included. ”

PC World reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“If you use or have seen the original BlackJack, you probably noticed the potentially confusing layout of the alphanumeric keys: A column of alphabet-and-symbol keys sits between them. Thankfully, Samsung fixed the issue on this model by placing the alphanumeric keys directly next to one another. ”

WashingtonPost reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“On the software side, the Windows Mobile 6 OS comes with a couple of enhancements, including push e-mail support (messages automatically download in the background as opposed to your manually retrieving them) and a slightly better Internet Explorer browser. It’s worth noting that, instead of the Picsel Viewer app used in the original BlackJack for viewing and editing Office documents, the BlackJack II runs Microsoft Office Mobile with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. ”

InfoSync reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

Pros: Improves upon the original BlackJack with GPS, a larger screen, more memory. Good battery life. Call management and scheduling are great on Windows Mobile 6. Cons: Scroll wheel stymied us at every turn. Advanced multimedia services aren’t so great, lapped by competitors. Time to ditch the proprietary cables. ”

MobileTechReview reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“Though we found TeleNav to be fast, accurate with very good voice guidance, traffic information updates and routing. One benefit of the subscription based service is updates and new map data are sent to the phone when available. No need to buy an upgrade or load new maps from a CD. We tested the GPS with Google Maps and Windows Live, both of which worked fine with the GPS. ”

Wirelessinfo reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“The Blackjack II lasted six hours ten minutes under these conditions, which is very good performance. Most phones fall between four and six hours. The performance is even more impressive given that the Blackjack II uses AT&T’s power hungry 3G networks. ”

InventorSpot reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“Overall, the “insides” of the BlackJack II provide speedy navigating through the menus without much lag, and they also allow for multitasking with this device…The GPS feature works great in this phone, although it does cost extra ..The navigation feature will give you voice-guided directions, 3D maps, and local points of interest (POI). ”

MobileTechReview reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“We’re happy to report that the Samsung BlackJack is wonderful as a phone with excellent call quality, louder than average volume and a good speakerphone. And it feels good in hand– like a phone and not a brick. The i607 is on par with or better than the also excellent Cingular 3125 clamshell MS Smartphone when it comes to call quality and the BJ is louder. Raise the BlackJack’s earpiece volume to max and you’ll think you’ve turned speakerphone on. Though the i607’s single rear-firing loudspeaker isn’t as loud as the stereo speakers on the i320, it’s plenty loud enough and very clear without much distortion at full volume.”

LaptopMag reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

“Under the hood, the BlackJack II offers smoother performance than its predecessor, thanks to Samsung’s doubling the amount of memory, to 128MB of RAM from 64MB, and to 256MB of ROM, up from 128MB. The 260-MHz processor (up from 220 MHz) loaded applications pretty quickly, and having multiple programs open didn’t slow things down much. ”

CNET reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

The good: The Samsung BlackJack II improves on its predecessor with Windows Mobile 6; GPS; a 2-megapixel camera; and more memory and better performance. The smartphone also features a larger display and enhanced full QWERTY keyboard as well as HSDPA support, Bluetooth, and AT&T Video Share support. The bad: The front jog wheel feels loose and unresponsive, and the smartphone uses Samsung’s proprietary connector port for headsets and other accessories. The BlackJack II lacks Wi-Fi, and there’s also no support for voice dialing. We also had some ActiveSync connection problems. ”

Brighthand reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes:

Pros: 3G wireless broadband, Ultra-slim design, Solid construction, Inexpensive. Cons: Lacks WiFi, Proprietary USB/audio connector, MicroSD card. Bottom Line: Solidly designed and built slim device with broadband and a few trade-offs. ”
