Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) Reviews

Gamespot reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

“Developed by a completely different team within Konami, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 takes the game’s solid heritage and adds a control system specifically designed for the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The online mode is generally excellent, as well as lag-free, and the game-finding system works well. It’s still a little too short on game modes and unlockable extras, but as a bold first appearance on the Wii, it’s an innovative new game that football fans should definitely check out.”

Eurogamer reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

“Players are intelligent enough to run into space if you decide not to pass directly to them. For shots, clearances and headers a well-timed swing of the nunchuk will do the trick, while a swing of the remote results in a chip…Playable either with friends (via the convoluted Wii friends code system) or random strangers, it’s simple to get matches going, and extremely straightforward to make tactical changes thanks to a new drag and drop system (complete with comedy caricatures of your team).”

IGN reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

“The system is both simple and deep at the same time as well, since a quick tap of the A button will send any player to any position on the field, while a pull of the B trigger passes to them. Everyone on the field uses complex AI systems that lets them know instantly that they are the intended receiver of the pass as well, so a quick tap of B will not only send a ball out for a pass, but automatically start the nearest player running towards it. The end result is easily the most fluid and enjoyable soccer experience we’ve ever played.”

VideoGamer reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

“On the plus side the Champions Road mode, which replaces the frankly stale Master League, is quite refreshing. It’s a stripped down version, but it’s better for it. Gone is the uninspired transfer system, replaced by a trading card-style player collection game. Here you take a squad, which begins with the same set of players that have made up the default Master League team in every PES, Castillo and Minanda included, and attempt to “collect” better quality players by winning region specific tournaments, usually four teams strong.”

NintendoLife reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

“This game does its job very well - it’s a new and refreshing way of looking at the football game, and Konami deserve huge praise for trying something truly different with a brand that, it could be argued, has been stagnating since the breakthrough PES4. Highly enjoyable, unique and absorbing, PES isn’t just the best ever football game on a Nintendo platform, it’s a beacon to other third-party developers that should reawaken their imagination in approaching old formulae with fresh ideas.”

ComputerAndVideoGames reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

” It is indeed tough when you start out, but either a decent session on the training ground - which is nicely presented, very well thought out and thoroughly comprehensive - or plenty of practice on the lower difficulty settings will put you on the path to glory.”

OfficialNintendoMag reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

” If we have one major concern with the game it’s that the focus is too heavily centred on the offensive side of things. When you have the ball it’s great fun, but once you’re defending it quickly becomes quite frustrating. You’re not actually able to choose a defender and move him around with the analogue stick…Verdict: Easily the best football game on a Nintendo system. It takes a while to get used to the new controls but once you get your head round them, they become second nature.”

GamesRadar reviews the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii) and writes;

“There are plenty of other game modes to keep you busy, though. There are international and domestic cups and leagues aplenty and of course a match mode where you can take on your mates. With so many lines and arrows on the pitch, this can get a little bewildering, and we did struggle to see who we were controlling at points. The icing on the game mode cake has to be one-vs-one online play. With the ability to create a team of Miis, this is the place to be.”
