REVIEWS (last updated: 02/05/07)

CNET reviews the Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD Wireless and writes;

“At the end of the day, the Pinnacle PCTV To Go is a worthwhile Slingbox alternative. It all comes down to what features you’re looking for. If you’re looking for the easiest setup routine and the ability to stream live TV to viewers using something besides a Windows PC–such as Macs, Windows Mobile, Palm–then Slingbox remains the better choice. But if you’re a more sophisticated user who needs built-in Wi-Fi, support for simultaneous streaming to multiple PCs, or some degree of Windows Media Center compatibility, the Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD Wireless is a worthwhile choice. Its rich feature set, low price, and impressive performance make it a credible alternative for any potential Slingbox owners. “

Wi-Fi Planet reviews the Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD Wireless and writes;

“The Pinnacle Systems PCTV To Go HD Wireless offers many things the Slingbox line currently does not — Wi-Fi, standard component and pass-through AV connections, support for multiple clients, and the ability to record video. That said, these features don’t make up for the highly inflexible network configuration and lack of WPA support. When those issues are fixed, the PCTV To Go HD will be a more credible alternative to the Slingbox. In the meantime, if you value the aforementioned features, can temporarily live with WEP, and don’t need access from wired systems, the PCTV To Go is worth a look.”

DVDPlayground reviews the Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD Wireless and writes;

“The setup is relatively easy, but since I like to play with things I decided to go into Advanced Mode to change my IP address to something other than the assigned DHCP address. After assigning a new IP address I had to login to my router and setup port forwarding for port 56123. Unfortunately different routers have different ways to setup port forwarding so check the documentation for your router.”

PracticallyNetworked reviews the Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD Wireless and writes;

“Streaming quality on the PCTV To Go leaves little to complain about, whether you’re accessing it from inside or outside your home. In either case, video and audio quality was quite good. While viewing locally, the image was quite sharp and crisp as the player software reported streaming just shy of 6 Mbps.”

Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD Wireless User Review @ Amazon;

“This device implements a nice concept and mostly delivers what it promises. Once set up properly, a non-geek could easily use this. Setup is ok but not that simple, but since this device requires that you also administer a router, that is not a very big deal. The display and recording interfaces are clean and simple. The picture quality is great, but don’t expect 720p because it is not 720p. I would strongly suspect that recording in 720p would get this into some legal issue. But still, quality is equal or slightly better than dvd quality. Some cons: cpu intensive, some laptop cards don’t work, can’t record at predefined times using the software provided, and there is no keyboard control.”
