Patapon (PSP) Reviews
Trusted Reviews reviews the Patapon (PSP) and writes;
“Luckily, it doesn’t, and it’s mostly thanks to the game’s visual style and the charm of the Patapons themselves. Patapon comes from the team that created LocoRoco, and like that game it ditches 3D for a distinctive, illustrative 2D look. The results are wonderful, and while the graphics might be simple, you have to admire the skill with which the camera zooms in and out and back and forth to constantly give you the best view of the battleground, not to mention the ingenious design and animation of the creatures and - particularly - the bosses.”

CNET reviews the Patapon (PSP) and writes;
“Patapon is a strategy game with some great boss encounters, as well as plenty of different weapons and armor pieces to collect. But first and foremost, it’s still a rhythm game. If you can’t keep a beat, you’ll struggle to string together combos of orders, which will result in your army standing around hopelessly anytime it is unsure about what to do. Fortunately, the game’s lighthearted soundtrack.. is helpful in this regard, and once you settle into a rhythm, your army will even start to sing along.”

“Rhythm Game, strategy game, mini-game collection, action game, light RPG – Patapon is all of these and much, much more. It’s a genre onto itself, a title that not only exalts in creativity and unique style, it delivers a fun, addictive, engaging experience that keeps you playing over and over again.”

Eurogamer reviews the Patapon (PSP) and writes;
“And in the end, that’s why LocoRoco is a useful comparison. Because whereas LocoRoco’s effortless charm and stylistic verve compensated for an occasionally lightweight game design, in Patapon, a similar visual panache and lively effervescence compensates for an occasionally over-complex game design. So, to reiterate: while Patapon has got the same quirky sense of style and visual charm as its predecessor, it doesn’t offer the same easy breezy gameplay. Instead, it offers an imposing amount of depth and a considerable amount of micromanagement.”
