It’s extremely compact, solid state, and high definition – three assets that will serve it well with teh jet set crowd. The improvements since the first generation are impressive: now recording in full 1920 x 1080 with an increased bit rate of 17Mbps, a more powerful image optical stabilization system, and cool features like the Pre-Record function. Even the updates since the second generation HDC-SD5 are significant: 24P mode, face detection, Digital Cinema Color (xvYCC), and the Intelligent Shooting Guide. ”

“Points for: Small, lightweight, excellent handling. Cinema 25P mode a major plus point. Superb quality widescreen HD images, superb Advanced-OIS, user-friendly menu system, Pre-Rec utility, good connectivity, much better positioning of battery and mini-joystick control
Points against: Joystick can be difficult to operate in a hurry, 700x digital zoom is superfluous, slight picture noise in low light, wind noise affects mic even at low level”

Las Vegas, NV (January 6, 2008) – Panasonic, a leader in High Definition and digital video technologies, today announces two new full-High Definition 3CCD camcorders, the HDC-HS9, a hybrid model that can record to either an SD (or SDHC) Memory Card or its built-in 60-GB hard disk and the HDC-SD9, the world’s smallest and lightest* SD card High Definition camcorder, weighing in at just 0.606 pounds. Both the SD9 and HS9, which feature new Panasonic camcorder technologies, Face Detection and Intelligent Shooting Guide, will be displayed at the 2008 International CES in Las Vegas from January 7-10 at the Panasonic booth #9405.
