Opoona Reviews

GameSpot reviews the Opoona and writes;

“Fortunately, things pick up once you leave the domes behind and engage in actual combat. Battles in Opoona are usually random, but they are simple and fun, and they highlight the game’s unusual, minimalist control scheme. There are a few options available, but the best (and default) control setup is to use only the Nunchuk. All you need is a single analog stick and two buttons, and you have it made.”

GamePro reviews the Opoona and writes;

“The good news is that Opoona’s control scheme is one of the best I’ve ever seen in a Wii game. You can play using just the Nunchuk and it’s all intuitively done. Whether it’s navigating menus, exploring the world, or fighting battles, using the Nunchuk feels right. The game world is also well realized; Landroll features a fusion of fantasy and modern architecture and it is a joy to explore every nook and cranny. I just wish the developers did a better job with the map, which is vague and lacks labels or markers to help you’re your way.”

Mywiinews reviews the Opoona and writes;

“The majority of Opoona’s deeper story is kept under wraps for the bulk the adventure, with only tidbits of information leaked out or subtly hinted to you along the way. Even though its story is relatively solid with bits of humor thrown in for good measure, Opoona does adhere to a few JRPG stereotypes and plot expectations that come to fruition in the latter part of the adventure.”

IGN reviews the Opoona and writes;

“It looks good, it’s easy to play, and there’s a lot to do. If you don’t mind random battles, you’ll probably find the game to be enjoyable in spite of its many faults. Most of my complaints (no voice acting, lack of camera control outside, typos…) probably wouldn’t occur to a younger gamer.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

Gamesradar reviews the Opoona and writes;

“Opoona does boast a ton of side content though, from the optional job licenses to TV shows that are transmitted to your character’s PDA. There are loads of licenses to be earned as well, allowing you to try your hand at such jobs as mining, farming, art, music, and yes, the service industry. Finally every gamer can live out their wild fantasy of working at a fast food restaurant! Each job bases itself around a minigame like task that you will repeat for each job until you have completed enough tasks to earn the next level of your license. ”

1up reviews the Opoona and writes;

“Opoona excels in the audiovisual department. Developer ArtePiazza also crafted the futuristic Harvest Moon entry Innocent Life, and its mix of high technology and nature is retained here. The outdoor environments are surprisingly detailed, and they don’t shy away from color to illustrate a bright day, an orange-tinted evening, or a dark blue desert. And the music, composed by Final Fantasy Tactics veteran Hitoshi Sakimoto, is appropriately spacey, yet upbeat. ”

Destructoid reviews the Opoona and writes;

“If Opoona had a more motivating story and more enjoyable in-game tasks, it would rank as one of the best RPGs of the past five years, due in no small part to its innovative battle system and unique in-game world. But as it stands, Opoona is like the Teletubbies of videogames: it’s easy to recommend it to kids and weirdoes, but everybody else might want to try before they buy.”
