+ REVIEWS:

DigitalTrends have reviewed the NeoDigits Helios X5000 where they rate the player 7/10 and write;
“Our take is that if you are in the market for a high-end media streamer or server, we think you should give the Helios X5000 a try. Not only does the X5000 sound great, but it plays digital and DVD video. You would be hard pressed to find a media streamer that does that for fewer than $600 bucks. The X5000 is not without its faults and you should expect to spend sometime fine tuning its settings, you will also need to be patient with it’s boot times. Remember, the X5000 should be treated as one part PC and one part DVD player.”

PCAuthority have reviewed the NeoDigits Helios X5000 where they rate the player 5/6 and write;
“It gets bonus points for having build quality that’s second to none. It feels as though it’s been carved out of a large aluminium slab; the buttons on the facia are reassuringly weighty and sound satisfyingly industrial when you push them. It may not be the most effective solution, but short of a full-blown media centre PC it is an extremely versatile, and far more elegant, home theatre centre.”

Audioholics have reviewed the NeoDigits Helios X5000 where they rate the player 2/5 and write;
“The Helios X5000 is a great concept. An upconverting DVD player / high end CD player with the ability to stream media from other sources in your (or your friend’s) home. Unfortunately, the X5000 feels much more like a beta box than a finished product. Helios seems like it may have a good product on its hands… eventually. But until all these bugs are worked out, it just isn’t ready for prime time.”

About.com have reviewed the NeoDigits Helios X5000 where they rate the player 4.5/5 and write;
“Although color, contrast, and detail are very good with both component and HDMI output settings, testing the unit using the Silicon Optix HQV DVD Benchmark Test Disc, revealed that the X5000 delivered weak performance in terms of jaggie elimination, cadence detection, noise reduction, and moire pattern elimination. On the other hand, the X5000 does very well on detecting and displaying mixed 30 frame video titles over 24 frame film element video, as well as good overall detail. “

PCW.UK have reviewed the NeoDigits Helios X5000 where they rate the player 3/5 and write;
“But for a box that claims to be for audiophiles, it’s disappointing to miss out DVD Audio and Super Audio CD, along with multi-channel analogue outputs; the best you get is digital optical and co-ax, or analogue stereo. There’s no doubt this is a competent performer – but we think the lack of H.264 is a serious omission, as the format is set to appear in more and more places, and we’d like to see a better remote control, too. Pros: HD video playback; Flac support; excellent sound quality Cons: No support for protected WMV content; no H.264. Overall: A solid performer that lacks just a few high end features”
