Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) Reviews

NintendoLife reviews the Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) and writes;

“You choose whether you want to play worldwide or continental, you choose a character and vehicle and then (almost instantly) you’re added into a game. You’re first introduced to which gamers you’ll be racing against as their Mii does a little salute and tells you what part of the world they’re from and then that’s it. You’re in. You’re playing Mario Kart against people from across the world. It doesn’t lag. It doesn’t glitch. It just works…Mario Kart Wii is value for money (given the extraordinary amount of stuff on offer in this game) and is most importantly damn good fun.”

Pocket-Lint reviews the Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) and writes;

“Single player goes down the traditional racing title route of unlocking racers, tracks, and vehicles as you progress through the game’s multiple cups. Though the initial 50cc races featuring purely karts feel relatively easy (though a perfect way to introduce newcomers to the series), once you jump up to 100cc, and finally 150cc with the addition of bikes too, you’ll realise that you need to be solidly on the ball to keep all two/four wheels on the track. ”

DenofGeek reviews the Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) and writes;

“The button controls are laid out well, and pulling off drifts and firing power-ups is easy while driving, maybe even moreso than standard controls. Although, it should be noted that you can also use normal analogue stick controls with either the nunchuck, Wii Classic Controller or a Gamecube controller, and we suspect many diehard Kart fans will do just that, eschewing the new motion controls in favour of the more traditional option.”

IGN reviews the Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) and writes;

“Overall, Mario Kart Wii is extremely rewarding and we take into account the Wii wheel shell (yes, we just complimented a shell…), the inclusion of IR and non-IR supported menus, the seamless integration of console Miis, and never-ending laundry list of WiiConnect24 and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection features, the continued support of traditional control schemes, the retro levels, and much more. For the thick-minded, Mario Kart Wii offers a seemingly never-ending amount of content. Some of it you’ll love and some you won’t want to play through a second time.”

Acegamez reviews the Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) and writes;

“There will be many victories and many defeats too; Mario Kart will keep you amused for a very, very long time. As well as the standard Grand Prix, where you compete in a four-race cup (this is where the secrets and additions to the game are unlocked) there are some game modes as old as the series itself - Time Trial, Versus and Battle Mode have all made their way into this version. Versus is made more interesting with a team mode, where the winners and losers are decided by which group of racers tallies the highest points overall, while Battle Mode is all the more welcome for bringing back some of the old-school arenas, as well as having a different mode of play where the aim is to have more coins collected as the final buzzer goes, rather than to have scored more hits on your opponents. ”

N-Europe reviews the Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) and writes;

“The sixteen new courses tick all the Mario Kart boxes (a race-track, a desert, a Bowser’s Castle, a Rainbow Road, etc…) and include a few instant classics. Skidding around the branches of Maple Treeway amongst the Autumn leaves, and bumping down the bouncy net at the end, or hopping from mushrooom to mushroom in Mushroom… Navigating the escalators in Coconut Mall or flying down the underwater pipe in Koopa Cape… Nintendo have certainly not lost their legendary capacity for level design. ”

1UP reviews the Mario Kart (Nintendo Wii) and writes;

“Yeah, the lack of any real-time chat (either voice or text) seriously stifles the promise of social interaction, but racing against 11 friends (or strangers) still beats taking on the A.I.-controlled karts. Plus, the easily navigable menus and innovative (for Nintendo, at least) Mario Kart Channel (offering leaderboards, the sharing of ghost times, and officially organized tournaments) demonstrate substantial progress for the Wii’s fledgling online play. And the inclusion of Miis not only as playable characters but also as spectators, statues, and on billboards is flat-out brilliant — Nintendo has brought the game down to the masses…and the masses into the game.”
