REVIEWS

PCMag reviews the Magellan Maestro 4040 (rating: 3.5/5) and writes;

“On my road tests, the Maestro 4040 was a great companion. Its large, 4.3-inch screen was easy to read under all lighting conditions. I found the routes it generated were exactly the same as the routes produced by other Magellan units I’ve tested in the past. I also thought the new user interface was quite easy to use—a significant improvement over previous Magellan models. My only “drive time” disappointments were the lack of auto-zoom and auto-volume control. Of course, the addition of AAA TourBook helps offset this, and at its attractive price, the Maestro 4040 is easily a great buy”

LaptopMag reviews the Magellan Maestro 4040 (rating: 3.5/5) and writes;

“We tested the 4040 in a business section of New Jersey and on the highway, and the basic navigation worked without any glitches. The unit features an anti-glare screen, but we found the display difficult to see while driving in full sunlight. We also found the device slow to reroute after a missed turn and were irritated that the 4040 removes the map from the screen while recalculating.
The price is a little steep for a GPS unit without MP3 or photo features. But for AAA members-or those thinking about joining-this is an attractive and easy-to-use product that’s certainly worth considering. “

GPSMagazine reviews the Magellan Maestro 4040 and writes;

“The Maestro 4040 is a flawed unit that has more pros than cons. It’s not a perfect unit, but it does offer good basic navigation along with some powerful features unique to Magellan, a wide screen display, SiRF, updated NAVTEQ maps, Bluetooth, multi-destination routing, and AAA TourBook data. With so much going for it, it’s just that much more frustrating that the Maestro falls short of being a great GPS due to irritating display issues and poor readability. I had really been hoping for Magellan to hit a home run with Maestro, but the product falls short of my expectations. Maestro is an adequate GPS that could be just a firmware update away from being a very good GPS. “

CNET reviews the Magellan Maestro 4040 (rating: 7.7/10) and writes;

The good: The Magellan Maestro series of in-car GPS devices features an updated and sleeker design and interface with a spacious 4.3-inch touch screen. All models offer useful information on points of interest from the American Automobile Association. In addition, the Maestro 4040 has integrated Bluetooth and text-to-speech functionality, while the Maestro 4050 adds real-time traffic alerts and voice commands. The bad: During our road tests, the Maestro 4040 was a little slow to recalculate routes. The Bluetooth pairing process was also a bit difficult,and you can’t transfer contacts from your phone to the Maestro 4040. The bottom line: Sporting a sleeker design and interface, the affordable Magellan Maestro series offers drivers an accurate in-car GPS device with useful trip information, thanks to its partnership with AAA. “

Amazon has user reviews of the Magellan Maestro 4040 (rating: 5/5);

“Looked long and hard and this is the one. My girlfriend was doubtful if we needed it, now I have to pry it away from her. “
