LG Chocolate VX8550 Reviews

MobileTechReview reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

Pro: Cool form with touch controls and LED lights. Easier to use than the first generation Chocolate. Has a good set of phone features and software tools. Generous amount of memory and a memory card slot that supports 4 gig cards. GPS and VZ navigator support is a big plus. Very decent camera by US camera phone standards. Con: No headset included for hands-free dialing or music playback. Battery life isn’t stellar. ”
Rating: ★★★★☆

WirelessInfo reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

“Everything else the Chocolate does is between adequate and sub par. The camera is a typical 1.3 megapixel with problems representing colors..Overall, the Chocolate is in the middle of the mid-range, normal phone pack. It fills its “music handset” niche well, but drops the ball in most other areas. This is one case where the marketing is really what you get — just not much else.”

InfoSync reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

“A year ago, the VX8550 would have been a real stand-out, but now, even with all of the improvements, such as the cool scroll wheel, we can’t help but feel that the phone lacks a single outstanding feature. It packs in plenty of features, and for the price buyers should be happy to find themselves playing music, navigating with GPS and watching videos.”

PCWorld reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

“The phone sounded clear in my informal tests, even under windy conditions on a local street corner… This Chocolate may not be the best platform for handling multimedia or messaging: The lack of a keyboard makes texting difficult at best, and the interface for music playback lacks the finesse of those on competing phones such as the Nokia N95.”

PhoneArena reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

“We are overall pleased with most of the changes that have been incorporated into the new VX8550. The phone has a more stylish look to it and weighs slightly less. Music playback and Speakerphone quality have been improved by using a larger speaker that causes less distortion to be heard…The VX8550 is a definite upgrade from the original VX8500 Chocolate. If you liked the original, you will love this even more, but if you didn’t like the Chocolate, you should give the new version a try. You will be pleasantly surprised.”

PCMag reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

“The Chocolate is a decent phone, if not a marvelous one. I found RF reception to be fine. You get a lot of in-ear feedback too, and the earpiece goes up to a good volume but does distort a bit at top volume. The speakerphone volume is loud enough, even outdoors. Sound is just a touch harsh, however, and I wish the microphone transmitted a bit less background noise—but I’m very picky.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

CNET reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

“Call quality was impressive, and we had no problem getting a signal. Callers could still tell were using a cell phone, but they had no problem hearing or understanding us. The speakerphone quality was also good; incoming sound was loud and clear and callers could hear us just fine… The bottom line: The LG VX8550 Chocolate is definitely a big improvement over the original Chocolate, with a beautiful yet functional design plus a host of impressive features to boot.”
Rating: ★★★★☆

LaptopMag reviews the LG Chocolate VX8550 and writes;

“On the surface, the LG VX8550 seems like a minor cosmetic upgrade to the original Chocolate. But there’s a lot more to this slider than the new navigation wheel. The music player is fast; searching for songs is easy; and you can do a lot with tunes playing in the background. Some may prefer the similarly priced LG Muziq because of its clamshell design, FM transmitter, and Sprint’s cheaper 99-cent over-the-air downloads, but we think the Chocolate’s tactile controls and smarter software make it much easier to use.”

I currently own the LG VX8550, the Black Choclate and I like it for all of its features except for the Multimedia handling. It is very slow loading preview images from the videos. While watching a video you cannot slide the phone closed unless you want the video to stop playback. Cannot Rename Music Files. and more, yet these are just the bad things. IF YOU ARE AFTER A PHONE LIKE THIS I WOULD DEFINATLY RECOMEND THE MOTOROLA Z6C, yes it is a world phone but they make another version… all the bad features I mentioned are all resolved in the Motorola Z6C.

Shut the hell up! The LG Chocolate 8550 is a amazing phone! Deal with it!!!!!!

I know this is a bit late but I was searching for some cool tricks for the phone and ran across this site… and I couldn’t resist responding to Sean’s childish comment.

The phone is not “amazing” by any standard. Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice ‘phone’ but for the price (back when it was popular) it could barely qualify for anything more than just a ‘phone’. All the hype surrounding the phone was merely a marketing tactic, much like those late night TV marketing ads…. trying to convince viewers that they just HAVE to have this product. There is nothing really special about the phone if you compare this model to other phones with the same features. Sadly, those ‘other’ phones have all these options and most have much more.

As for SEAN’s comment above, You are suggesting we should “shut the hell up and deal with it”? You are an idiot. I had the same phone and, of course, I did DEAL WITH IT. I got rid of the piece of crap.

The worst thing about the phone is that there must be some kind of weak circuitry somewhere between the front and rear sliding parts. Sometimes when the phone is slid closed it will turn off…. and I don’t mean the power down cycle… it just goes off like the battery was removed immediately. Sometimes it does it EVERY TIME you close the phone and then other times it is just random. This is highly inconvenient because there’s no warning and you stick the phone in your pocket after a call and if you’re waiting on an important phone call, you wonder why nobody has returned your call….. it’s because the damned thing is OFF. It is ridiculous. What’s even MORE ridiculous? Sean’s comment.

Sean, give your mommy her phone back and resume your toontown game and leave the conversation to the adults.

I am very disappointed by this phne. I have the vx8550 and I thought yea a great phone! NO!!!!!! you cant download any games unless you pay for them, you can not get an independent web browser, you can access half the website out there like youtube unless you pay to use the vcast program at 25 dollars a month. I “upgraded” from a sanyo katana II and I could do anything I wanted with that except watch video. I bought my new vx8550 because I was told I could watch video with it. After the first day and I kept getting “malformed URL” every time I tried to watch a video I called verizon and then was told I would have to Pay yet more money to watch video, download games and I had no other choice of web browsers. for a phone that cost $450 I am very disgusted!

I own the VX8550 in Black, yet it has no flash. I never use the internet on it, so thats okay. I would like to mention though that its text recieving and sending is a little too slow. My friend has a different phone but is still on verizon, but when I send him a text it gets too him in 3 seconds flat. When he sends one to me it takes at most 2 minuets.This happens even when we are standing right next to each other.
