Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Reviews

Wired reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 and writes;

“You won’t find many 13-inch screens as bright as the ThinkPad Edge’s (1366 x 768 pixels), and spec-wise the computer is solid as well: 1.3-GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of RAM, and a 320-GB hard drive. That’s on par with machines like the Dell Adamo — but the Edge comes in at 40 percent the price, a mere $900 as configured here. The Edge is lighter, too, at 3.9 pounds — and its compact design makes it feel even smaller than that.”

DigitalTrends reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“Lenovo prefers to call it a “raised-island” style, but the implication is the same: flat-topped keys cut straight down to a flat base, rather than tapering out to meet neighboring keys flush, as normal keyboards to. Typically, Chiclet keys have disappointed us with short, spongy keypresses and inadequate tactile feel, but Lenovo seems to have preserved the same clicky spring and feel of the old ThinkPad keyboard. New cap shape, same satisfying tap. ”

PC World reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“Fortunately, the system comes equipped with 4GB of DDR3-1066 RAM and a fairly speedy 7200-rpm hard drive, so system bootup and application launch times are quick. It takes about 5 seconds to wake from sleep–snappy, but not the fastest we’ve seen. Battery life is excellent, lasting 6.5 hours in our battery run-down test. You could probably go more than 7 hours simply browsing the Web, checking e-mail, and working on office documents…”

Notebook Review reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“The Lenovo Edge 13 kept power consumption to a minimum with its Intel CULV internals. The SU7300 and X4500 integrated graphics were far from power hungry, keeping the system power draw under nine watts while operating off battery power. In our battery test with the screen brightness set to 70%, wireless active, and Windows 7 set to a balanced profile the Edge stayed running for 6 hours and 59 minutes…”

Engadget reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“Though the 1.2-inch thick Edge isn’t as thin as some other modern ultraportables, like the inch-thick ASUS UL30A and ThinkPad X200, at 3.5 pounds it feels extremely light in a hand and it slipped nicely into a backpack for a weekend trip. Ports-wise it’s a standard affair; scattered along the right and left edges are three USB ports, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, a SD card slot and a hybrid audio plug for headphones and/or a mic…”

HotHardware reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“The trackpad surface is atypically smooth; a drastic departure from the highly textured trackpad on machines like the T400s. The chicklet keyboard feels like a standard full size keyboard, and the “Fn” and “Ctrl” keys are reversed, as Lenovo has always done. Those used to having the Ctrl key on the outside of the bottom-left of the keyboard will have to do some adjusting to avoid hitting the wrong key(s)…”

CNET reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

The good: Excellent keyboard and touch pad; compact body; bright display The bad: The chassis could easily have held an optical drive, but doesn’t; better configurations drive up the price significantly”

Gizmodo reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“The 13.3″, 720p (1366×768) screen offers better sharpness than you might expect from an entry-level rig. There’s no latch to keep it closed, but it opens easily on its hinges. And my god is this thing flexible: I’m not sure why you’d ever want it to, but the display can recline over 180 degrees.”

Laptopmag reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“The Edge 13’s 320GB, 5,400-rpm hard drive took a mere 44 seconds to boot into Windows 7 Professional (32-bit), which is three seconds faster than the HP ProBook 5310m (47 seconds), and much faster than the 61-second category average. ”

Techradar reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and writes;

“Graphics performance fares slightly better. The integrated ATi GPU delivers enough power for running complex multimedia presentations, as well as basic photo and video editing. Both VGA and HDMI ports are in place for connecting to larger screens at home or in the office.”

Very good laptop ,a good price – very good bargain, by Eldar Eilam -
Rating: ★★★★★

“..Now, a month after I have this laptop I can share this:
It is a nice laptop. Yes, I have seen better looking ones, but still, it looks gentle and elegant.
The weight is pretty much what I was looking for, only 1.6kg including the 6 cells battery. Battery life is roughly five hours from what I’ve been able to ascertain by now. The Win 7 (premium) runs smoothly, there’s a HDMI connector which I connect to a full HD screen (1900×1080) and it looks just great. The keyboard is really comfortable and easy to use…”

“..Light weight, long battery life, very nice screen, an incredible keyboard, and a fairly reasonable price tag. We have not had the laptop very long, but my wife seems to really like it, especially the keyboard, track point, and multiple mouse buttons. Build quality appears to be much better than the Acer, although there does appear to be a slight flex in the lid as you open and close it. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to perform the initial set-up. In about 30 minutes, I had configured WiFi, had the computer automatically find drivers for our all-in-one HP printer (a first, usually need CD), and had downloaded and installed Open Office, Panda Cloud Antivirus, free PrevX3.0, McAfee SiteAdvisor, and IOBit Advanced System Care..”
