+ REVIEWS (last updated: 10/05/07)

LaptopMag reviews the i-mate JAQ3 (rating: 2.5/5) and writes:

“he excellent, full-sized QWERTY keyboard consists of 39 stiff backlit keys that offer a winning amount of tactile feedback; they were a pleasure to type on… The JAQ3’s integrated two-megapixel camera delivered passable still image and video quality; we found it easy and intuitive to navigate through the camera’s settings, which include 4X zoom, contrast, saturation, and resolution. About the only thing missing is a flash. “

Brighthand reviews the i-mate JAQ3 and writes:

“here’s no question that the JAQ3 is a vast improvement over its predecessor in almost every way. It’s got better hardware, a better design, and a broader user appeal. While I can’t say that I’ve been particularly awestruck by any given feature of the JAQ3, the simple truth is that it’s about as close as you’re going to get to the physical design of the Cingular BlackJack or Motorola Q while still having full Pocket PC software compatibility and features. If that’s your goal, then you’ve got a winner. Otherwise, the JAQ3 is decent, but some other device may be more fitting to your needs.”

CNET reviews the i-mate JAQ3 (rating: 5.7/10) and writes:

The good: The I-mate Jaq3 sports a sleeker design and adds a 2-megapixel camera and integrated Wi-Fi. The Windows Mobile 5 smart phone also has integrated Bluetooth, push e-mail capabilities, and the I-mate Suite, which provides extra productivity and security utilities to the business user. The bad: The Jaq3’s performance is sluggish and call quality was poor. Video playback was choppy, and there’s no 3G support.”

MsMobiles reviews the i-mate JAQ3 and writes;

Disadvantages: no WPA2-TKIP support, no AKU3 or newer (some handsets already have AKU3.2), slow processor, no 3G.
Advantages:very cheap, it has touch screen! it beats both Nokia E61 and HTC Excalibur because for some people having touch screen is absolutely necessary, the thinnest Pocket PC phone in the world!, QWERTY keyboard for single-handed usage - no need to use 2 hands like in HTC Hermes or HTC Wizards, supports also fast Wi-Fi (i.e. 802.11g), mini-SD card slot, so that one can use cheaper memory cards and bigger memory cards ; micro-SD cards are more expensive and available only up to 1 GB, mini-SD cards are cheap and available up to 2GB, QWERTY keyboard has cursor keys! So apart from cursor pad, there are separate cursor keys available! Such thing is not available even in Treo smartphones from Palm.”

MobileTechReview reviews the i-mate JAQ3 (rating: 3/5) and writes:

Pro: Yes, it’s large, but the JAQ3 has a great form factor with a QVGA landscape touch screen display and a good keyboard. It’s certainly thin at 0.57″ and it feels good in the hand (if you have large hands). Great software bundle, nice case included. Screen is sharp and bright. Con: Call quality is just OK. The JAQ3 feels sluggish, thanks to the 200MHz TI OMAP CPU. A large device by today’s standards, though it’s attractive. The small screen isn’t easy on the eyes and you must be more accurate with the stylus, though display quality and clarity are excellent. WiFi speeds are oddly slow. With several competing devices running Bluetooth 2.0, we’re surprised the power-user JAQ3 has only Bluetooth 1.2. Poor range and noise with Bluetooth headsets. So-so camera.”

Mobility Site reviews the i-mate JAQ3 (rating: 4.3/5) and writes:

“As thin as this device is, don’t let its size fool you because it is feature packed! When you turn on the device and navigate to programs you find 25 icons representing some pre-installed programs. Most are included programs and a few were trials but there was plenty to get you started…Enabling Wi-Fi is a breeze. Pressing the Wireless manager in the Connections tab gives easy access to the Phone, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings. Enabling Wi-Fi is quick and easy and most importantly, it works and works well! There is a nice Wi-Fi configuration tool that gives you the current configuration with the signal quality and means to adjust power settings. It is a nice tool to have.”
