Griffin iKaraoke for iPod

Griffin iKaraoke for iPod is designed to interface between most iPods with dock connectors and your home stereo, the iKaraoke works by silencing the lead vocal track of your favorite songs, letting you step up to the mic in your own voice. It’s particularly great for parties, as you aren’t restricted to traditional karaoke favorites but can instead sing along to any song you want.

PlaylistMag reviews the Griffin iKaraoke (rating: 3/5) and writes;

“Griffin did an impressive job of packing so much functionality into such a small device. However, the gain in portability is offset some by difficulties encountered in trying to get the right balance of vocals and music without feedback and by a lack of a way to adjust the microphone sensitivity. Once you do have it configured, however, it works adequately and can provide a reasonably good karaoke experience.”

CNET reviews the Griffin iKaraoke (rating: 4.7/10) and writes;

“Unfortunately, flipping the vocals switch from on to off does very little. The volume of lead vocals drops perhaps a hair, but is nowhere near removed from the song. Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose? To add insult to injury, audio coming through the line-out jack sounded terrible, mostly due to incessant–and loud–static. Surprisingly, the FM transmission fared better: The songs were still consistently peppered with static, but it wasn’t as loud or overpowering.The bottom line: The Griffin iKaraoke is cute and does a fine job as a mic, but it seriously fails in the karaoke department.”

iLounge reviews the Griffin iKaraoke (rating: 4.7/10) and writes;

“In our testing, iKaraoke’s FM transmission wasn’t as clear as it could have been - a factor weighing on our rating, but one Griffin claims will be remedied in later product updates - and we think that more sophisticated voice filtering tricks and lyric-adding software would be needed to fully execute on the device’s promise. Our standard-level recommendation recognizes the unit’s good performance for a reasonable price, but leaves room for what we hope will be future improvement.”
