Garmin Nuvi 200/250 Video Review

CNET reviews the Garmin Nuvi 200 and writes;

The good: The Garmin Nuvi 200 boasts a compact design and is easy to use. It offers accurate directions and some nice tools for the traveler. The bad: Though the Nuvi 200 is more affordable than other models in the series, we wish the price was slightly lower based on the included feature set. The bottom line: The Garmin Nuvi 200 series offers drivers and travelers a more budget-friendly version of the popular portable navigation devices, but we think the price is still slightly high for what you get.”
Rating: ★★★★½

GPSReview reviews the Garmin Nuvi 200 and writes;

“The speaker is plenty loud and I could clearly hear instructions at highway speeds with the radio on at normal levels and the windows cracked. It isn’t quite as loud as the speaker on the Nuvi 300 series, but it performed just fine. There is no text-to-speech option on the Nuvi 200 series, but the voice prompting was timely and of very good quality.”

Garmin Nuvi 200 User Reviews @ Amazon

“I owned this GPS for few days now and very much know everything about it. I am very impressed with what this GPS can do. I tried out many other GPS before buying this one but none of other brands can match Garmin in this area. I tried Magellan, Tomtom one, other Garmin GPS (included other Nuvi). Nuvi 350 has better feature such as MP3 player but little pricy. This GPS actually looks and feel better than what it look like in the picture. It’s so simple and easy to use. It has V8 map which is about 2 years old map and the latest map Garmin provides. V9 mapping is coming soon within few months. Direction and voice guidance are very clear and accurate. Touch screen is one of the nicest, very soft and sensitive. If you missed a turn, it recalculates a new route very quickly. POI is not very complete but good enough, you will not find many of the new POIs and some old POIs that existed for many years. Over all, it’s a great GPS.”

I have a garmin 200 and when i try to go from A to B via the motorway it will not take me that way. Why? it will take me on the motorway if that is the only way to go but as soon as it finds an A road it automatically takes me off that way. can anyone help? is this a common problem with the garmin 200 or just mine? can it be rectified on the Garmin? is there any software i can buy or can i download software to rectifie this problem. If you can help i thank you, if you cant help i thank you for looking.

Joyce, you probablly have it set as a priority to avoid them, in the sysye, options it allows you to turn on and off various avoidinces such as toll roads, motor ways and dirt roads.

Chances are you have it set to avoid highways. First tap the tool icon on the bottom right, then tap the settings icon, next tap Navigation. If Avoidances says Enabled then tap on Enabled and you will come up with a list of things to avoid. Chances are one of these options is enabled that shouldn’t be.

Did anyone figure this out as I am having the same problem and motorway avoidance is definitely not activated. When I am on motorways it spends its time try to get me off it and onto A roads and through towns.

I think,…. you have by mistake ,….activated Pedestrian Mode.

So your Nuvi thinks to walk … not to drive..

Goto…settings..system…and check usage mode.
Set it to Automobile.

My Garmin nuvi 200 gps touchpad is messed up. It wasn’t dropped or in hot or cold weather. When I go to hit a letter it is reading the letter above or below it. On other screens like “Where I am now”-and I want to touch “A different city”-it won’t let me–it is stuck on the first one.
Help! I have only had it for 6 months and it was brand new when I got it.
Thank you.

Hi Kathy. You might have a similar problem to me, too much static in the body. You can try to re-callibrate your nüvi’s touch screen by doing the following.
While turning your unit on, press and hold the top left of the screen with your finger immediately, this will then get you to the callibration screen. If your Garmin™ carries on with the normal boot sequence while you’re doing this, you must start again ’cause you weren’t quick enough.
Another tip, try to re-callibrate with a stylus of sorts, makes for better accuracy.
Hope this helps.

I recently lost clarity on screen and can barely make-out any of the icons. Audio is fine. Unit is 1 year old. Is this problem common? Can it be fixed, or should ijust be trashed?
