GameSpot has a review of the Donkey Kong Country (Wii) rated it 7.7/10 and writes;
“The characters are fluidly animated and have loads of personality. The tropical environments are rich with color and make use of every visual effect in the Super NES’s arsenal, including rain, mist, and day-to-night transitions. Some stages take place beneath the surface of lakes and swamps, where a bubbly translucency effect suggests the presence of water all around you…The soundtrack has a tropical feel and is a joy to hear, thanks to some melodic synthesizer work and the use of real instrument samples. “

IGN has a review of the Donkey Kong Country (Wii) rated it 8.5/10 and writes;
“The game is still a barrel of fun. As Donkey Kong, you set out on a side-scrolling adventure across the tropical DK Island to recover your stolen hoard of bananas from the villainous King K. Rool. But you’re not alone – your simian sidekick Diddy Kong tags along for tag-team action. You control one character at a time, the inactive ape following behind, and each has his own unique strengths. Donkey Kong is stronger and heavier, giving him the power to take out bigger baddies with a single bounce. Diddy is faster, more mobile. His cartwheels spin him along the ground and can roll through multiple enemies at the same time.”

Classic SNES has a review of the Donkey Kong Country (Wii) and writes;
“Another big part of Donkey Kong Country comes in the form of mini-games. These mini-games are generally hidden behind breakable walls, which you can get into by using a barrel to break them. Other times you get to them via barrels themselves, which are often times well hidden, like at the top of the screen or in a certain pit, and getting to these will shoot you off the screen where you’ll get to play whatever mini-game is connected with that barrel.”

WiiGamin has a review of the Donkey Kong Country (Wii) and writes;
Verdict - It was popular back then (1994) and it is still a very fun game with a lot of variety, and graphics that have been stylized in a way that don’t seem to date. Worth Your Money? Well Donkey Kong Country on the Virtual Console works perfectly, and feels great with the Classic Controller, so if you want a classic, and solid adventure game then it’s definitely worth your money.”

ic-games has a review of the Donkey Kong Country (Wii) and writes;
“To break up the levels somewhat you could also travel between previous levels via a map which is displayed once you have completed a level. From here you could back-track, visit members of Kong’s family to get tips, fly to other parts of the map or to save your progress. Travelling back would often be used by gamers to stock up on the extra lives for trickier sections later on. It was quite possible to store up ridiculous amounts of extra lives by traveling to easy sections of the map which in the end did make the game a little on the easy side. That being said the game still contained bucket loads of entertainment value – even stocking up on the extra lives was fun.”

SNESclassics has a review of the Donkey Kong Country (Wii) and writes;
“The many bonus levels intrigued you and challenged you to be your best. The animal companions gave you an extra incentive to play because the Swordfish, the Rhino and the Frog made it that much better and that much fun. The other thing that really revolutionized action/adventure type games was Donky Kong Country’s boards and levels because none were exactly the same. Each board had it’s individual quirks and perks and each board gave you that needed challenge that other action/adventure type games lacked at the time.”
