Creative Zen Stone Plus Reviews

Creative Zen Stone video review by TigerDirect;

ArsTechnica reviews the Creative Zen Stone Plus and writes;

“The Stone Plus is a great little player with a useful screen, solid battery life, and an extra gig of memory over the original Stone (and the Shuffle). At less than $70, it’s not a bad deal, either, and we give it a wholehearted “buy” recommendation for those in search of such a device.”
Rating: ★★★★½

Stuff.TV reviews the Creative Zen Stone Plus and writes;

“On paper it’s the best of the mini MP3 players, but battles aren’t won or lost on a spec sheet, the real art is in the execution. And that’s where the Stone Plus sadly loses the plot. ”
Rating: ★★★☆☆

CNET reviews the Creative Zen Stone Plus and writes;

“Unfortunately, the Zen Stone Plus didn’t perform quite so well with processor speed. The time between clicking the control pad and the next item in the menu being highlighted is painfully lagging… The bottom line: For those who want a super small and cute MP3 player that offers more than just simple music playback, the Creative Zen Stone Plus fits the bill nicely.”
Rating: ★★★½☆

AnythingButIpod reviews the Creative Zen Stone Plus and writes;

“While I wouldn’t call this an absolute “Don’t Buy”, it is one of the more inexpensive players with 2GB of memory. You can find comparable players around its price range with better interfaces and more of a feature set.”
Rating: N/A

CNET.UK reviews the Creative Zen Stone Plus and writes;

“A terrific player for a terrific price. While not as stylish as similar players, the Zen Stone Plus is offered at a bargain price and comes packed with more features than anyone would expect a player of this size to have”
Rating: ★★★★☆

Pocket-Lint reviews the Creative Zen Stone Plus and writes;

“The Zen Stone Plus takes what we think is an already really good mini MP3 player, adds a screen, adds a radio, and more memory too boot without changing the size or the functionality of the player.”
Rating: ★★★★½

The Zen Stone + is realy a very very stupid product. From the moment I bought it till now (2 weeks +), I’ve been trying to get it to work buty just cannot. I’m no technical idiot - I’ve tried switching off my firewall, switching it back on, shutting down my zone alarm and all sorts.

The software is really really stupid. There’s no info on the packaging that you need a certain software - Creative Media Lite. No CD provided, nothing! Not even instructions. You’d have to navigate through creative website and come to the realisation yourself that you need to download this software.

After downloading and installing, the software just cannot recognise the product. Whenever I hook up my product, the software window says - creative product not detected. How dumb is that. I’ve tried uninstalling, rebooting and re-installing - same end result.

Whenever I try to do a software update, it runs through the motion, then says “some parts are corrupted”. That’s it - there’s no follow up after that.

The best part is whenever I need support from Creative, I would have to go down to their office personally! What the fk! Have they not heard of telephone support??

In conclusion, I would have to say the brains that went behind this product resemble the size of the product as well - tiny.

Just want to say that you must be stupid to turn off your firewall and antivirus to install any product. These kind of MP3 players should be recognised as a drive by windows and you should drop files into it, just like a memory key. Practically all MP3’s get shipped with a software element that is never going to work 100% to your satisfaction, just use whatever music software you already use. Even Media Player can sync with a memory stick!!
Read the manual.
P.S. One of the first things i do whenever i buy new hardware is check the web for new firmware.

Learn how to use a computer, or upgrade your brain.

Sorry to bust your bubble bud, but maybe try buying a semi-recent windows program. windows 98 works with mp3s, try getting that… later would be better.
I don’t think trying to syncronise your creative stone to your cardboard laptop with little buttons painted on will work… or maybe it will… if you turn off your firewall..

maybe your trying to put the player in the wrong port.. try the one labled ‘usb.’ your better off not trying the ones labled ‘microphone,’ ‘DVD,’ ‘Monitor’ or your ‘Arse.’

And about going to the creative office personally.. maybe your scared of social interaction with real people, which might, and i sarcastically express, might, try to fix the problem.

In conclusion, i think you are the one with the tiny, ’stone’ brain if you’ve tried and cannot find the telephone support number for creative!!!

Not sure why Panda had so many problems - mine connected & was immediately recognized. I did not even bother w/ the software as you can just copy files straight to it like any flash memory drive.

The paperwork/manual that came w/ the device is rather lacking & going to the website was not much help either. Luckily, I was able to figure out how to do most of the actions myself after playing w/ it for a while.

I’ve downloaded ‘Creative Media Lite’ but am having trouble getting going. I get the message ‘Creative Player is not detected’. Are you able to offer advice/help please? I can’t figure out how to get round the problem.

Software fails to install even after clean boot, download decompresses, installshield wizard opens a window to select language… and then just disappears! And the stupid manual is imbedded in the download!
Player works fine though without the software.

I had this problem too. The Zen Stone Plus only seemed to want to be on the F: drive and it couldn’t do this if F: was already mapped (to a network drive). Disconnect any other drive currently mapped to F: and the Zen Stone Plus appears there and is then recognized by Creative Media Lite.

Hope this helps,
Ed
