“The good: Solid 720p video; ultraslim design; removable, rechargeable battery; easy to use; one-touch video uploading to YouTube and Photobucket; includes mini HDMI connector and bundled cable for outputting 1080i video to an HDTV. The bad: No flash-memory slot; Mac users have to manually copy video files to their computers; white balance is slightly off and colors are a bit amped.”

“The camcorder works with Windows XP and Vista, as well as with Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later. The integrated 8GB of storage holds up to 2 hours of 720p high-def video in HD+ mode (higher bit rate), up to 4 hours of footage in HD mode (still 720p video, but at a lower bit rate), and up to 8 hours of standard-definition VGA (640 by 480 resolution) video. For my testing, I mainly used the HD+ mode. While the 2-hour battery life is a bit short considering the Vado HD’s recording capacity, the battery is user-replaceable, so you can carry an extra battery along and swap it in when necessary…”

“The Vado HD supports three shooting modes–HD Plus, HD, and standard definition video. Unlike the Kodak Zi6, whose HD60 enhanced HD mode shoots 1,280 by 720 video at 60 frames per second, the Vado’s HD Plus simply shoots 720p video at a standard 30fps, but at a higher data rate–around 8.4 Mbps. In standard HD mode the data rate is about half that. Higher data rates generally result in better looking video and the Vado’s HD Plus does look better than regular HD..”

“The video quality is pretty good [even with Mom's Parkinsons]. The colors are rich, the adaptation to different lighting is good. The sound quality is not bad [for such a tiny device]. The huge amount of video that can be shot is staggering [We had to increase Mom's bandwidth on her DSL line because of all the video she is shooting/sharing]…”
