Trusted Reviews has a review of the Crackdown rated it 8/10 and writes;
“It might not have worked if these ideas weren’t so superbly executed, but they are. The controls are slick, with responsive, high-speed movement and melee combat and targeting features that put other open world games to shame. In a way it’s a compliment that the driving is probably the least compelling aspect of the game. The handling model is fantastic, and there is a superb range of vehicles to choose from, but why bother with something so prosaic as driving when you can leap tall buildings with only a couple of bounds?”

IT Reviews has a review of the Crackdown;
“Still, what we’re looking at here is a very effective freeform action game that for once doesn’t pale when compared to GTA, which dominates the genre. At its best it really is quite brilliant, and few who fork out are likely to feel short-changed. But let’s hope the hinted-at sequel emerges and serves up a slightly sterner long term challenge that this debut for the franchise ultimately manages to deliver…A wildly entertaining game at best, albeit one with limits. Still, Crackdown effortlessly justifies its asking price, even if it falls short of the immense potential it shows”

IGN has a review of the Crackdown rated it 8.0/10 and writes;
“But playing cooperatively is a blast. Gamers can jump in and out of a friend’s game at any time without restrictions, and if desired, players can complete the entire game together (garnering a special Achievement). The world is open for both players. Each gamer can play the game independently or join as a pair. Fighting one another is evil fun, as is racing the foot and car races. But it’s the ability to just talk while playing through the campaign that’s really the greatest quality of all. In a masterful touch, players can collect orbs in each other’s game independently of the other, meaning there will never be any competition for orbs. Using Xbox Live, players can also check leaderboards for mini-races and time trials.”

Gamer Within has a review of the Crackdown rated it 7.0/10 and writes;
“Crackdown does – although only to a certain extent. It’s great fun to play, adds some subtle RPG levelling-up features and makes urban gameplay interesting by throwing in plenty of over-the-top moves that True Crime or Saints Row could only dream of. It’s far from perfect, and is still restricted to many of the genre’s traditions. Some may also be disappointed with fairly scant and uncreative storyline, which simply sends you on a goose chase around three different areas of a city as you hunt down gang leaders.”

GameSpot has a review of the Crackdown rated it 7.8/10 and writes;
“The game’s characters and objects have a dark, black line around them, which makes you think of cel-shading, but the characters are textured, giving it a more sophisticated look, rather than the cartoon-like style that cel-shading alone tends to evoke. And the draw distance is impressive. You can climb up to some awfully high buildings in this game, and you’ll be able to see most of the city when you do so.”

Team Xbox has a review of the Crackdown rated it 9/10 and writes;
“Technically, Crackdown is solid, which is saying A LOT as open ended worlds are the antithesis of the “on rails” adventures cluttering up game store bargain bins. The sound effects are mind-blowing at times, thus making massive explosions methodically created by the user worth all of the setup time. Same goes for explosions and particle effects which actually seem fitting for each kaboom - no matter how big or small.”
