Onkyo HT-S907 - Review @ CNET

CNET has posted its review of the Onkyo HT-S907, a Home-Theater-In-A-Box system with DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6, THX Cinema, DTS decoder, DTS-ES decoder, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital Surround EX decoders, 1 x Subwoofer - External - Wired, 2 x Right/left channel speaker - External - Wired, 1 x Center channel speaker - External - Wired, 4 x Right/left rear channel speaker - External - Wired speaker system and a 7.1 channel Surround system class.

Onkyo HT-S907

The good: Home theater in a box with component-grade 7.1-channel A/V receiver with analog video upconversion to component video and switching for two HDMI sources; full-size six-disc DVD changer with 480p, 720p, or 1080i output over HDMI; wall-mountable two-way/three-driver satellite speakers and powered 10-inch subwoofer; advanced auto-speaker-calibration system; XM Satellite Radio capability with Neural Surround. The bad: The HDMI options fall short of optimal: the receiver doesn’t convert analog video to HDMI, and its onscreen menus aren’t viewable over the HDMI output. The bottom line: Onkyo’s HT-S907 delivers an extraordinary combination of excellent features and impressive sound quality at a very competitive price. (8.3/10)”

Philips BDP9000 Blu-ray Player - Review @ CNET

CNET has published a review of the Philips BDP9000 Blu-ray Player where they rate the player 6.3/10 and write;

philips-bdp9000-blu-ray-player

“For the most part the BDP9000 was very good–the first pattern demonstrated it successfully passed the full resolution of DVDs without a problem, and this was backed up by another test with marble stairs and a bridge that looked very detailed for DVD…The bottom line: The Philips BDP9000 has some great design touches and excellent Blu-ray image quality, but its high price, less-comprehensive audio capabilities and the comparative affordability of the PlayStation 3 suggest that you should probably hold off. “

Vizio GV46L HDTV Reviewed by CNET

vizio-gv46l-hdtv.jpg

Vizio GV46L HDTV has been reviewed by CNET where they rate this 46-inch LCD TV 5.9/10 (Average) and write;

The good: Inexpensive for a 46-inch LCD TV; plenty of connectivity with two HDMI and one PC input; solid video processing with standard-def sources; removable speaker.
The bad: Inaccurate color temperature; reproduces relatively light color of black; no color-temperature presets; subpar off-angle viewing performance.
The bottom line: The 46-inch Vizio GV46L HDTV costs less than the big-screen LCD competition, but its picture quality isn’t up to par with the company’s other bargain efforts.

Cambridge SoundWorks Newton HD 6.1 Reviewed by CNET

cambridge-soundworks-Newton-HD-6.1

Cambridge SoundWorks Newton HD 6.1 has been reviewed by CNET where they rate this High-end home theater package 8.5/10 (very good) and write;

The good: High-end home theater surround speaker package; includes uniquely styled satellite speakers that offer versatile mounting options while retaining a solid heavyweight cast-aluminum build; stylish steel-paneled 300-watt subwoofer is only 8.5 inches deep but manages to include six 6.5-inch woofers; innovative engineering completely eliminates cabinet vibrations, which may reduce floor-borne transmission to the room below the subwoofer.
The bad: This combination of power, style, and performance doesn’t come cheap. And we were disappointed that the speakers used spring-clip connectors rather than binding posts.
The bottom line: Cambridge’s Newton HD 5.1 Home Theater speaker system features flat-screen-friendly design, advanced engineering, a unique subwoofer design, and spectacular sound quality–judged on a dollar-for-dollar basis, there’s nothing that can touch it.

Yamaha YHT-670 Reviewed by CNET

yamaha-yht-670

Yamaha YHT-670 has been reviewed by CNET where they rate this home theater in a box 7/10 (very good) and write;

The good: Home theater in a box including component-grade A/V receiver with generous connectivity options, full-size DVD changer, wall-mountable minisatellite speakers and powered 8-inch subwoofer; XM Satellite Radio capability with HD Surround; optional iPod dock.
The bad: Curiously, you get only five satellites with this 6.1-channel A/V receiver, and the system lacks automatic setup (speaker calibration) and HDMI output. You also may need to use separate remotes–one for the receiver, one for the DVD player.
The bottom line: The compact speakers of Yamaha’s YHT-670 home-theater-in-a-box not only mimic the sound of HTIBs with tower speakers, the sound can be upgraded down the road with better speakers.
