Olympus Produces Cameras from Wood
The processed wooden material has the feel and grain pattern of natural wood, but is much harder than engineering plastics such as ABS and polycarbonate resins. Strong enough to be used to create the outer casings of electronic products, the material can enhance the aesthetic value and pleasure of ownership that those products provide.

A prototype example of a camera case created using this new technology will be exhibited at the photokina 2006, being held in Cologne, Germany

Fujifilm Unveils FinePix F31fd
Fujifilm unveils new FinePix F31fd featuring a large 2.5 inch, 230,000 pixel LCD screen, 6.3 million pixels, Face Detection Technology built-in to the camera’s processor, full resolution of ISO 3200 sensitivity, long life battery up to 580 shots, Real Photo Processor II and new Super CCD HR VI. The FinePix F31fd will be available from UK retailers in late November 2006. The price is not yet confirmed.

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro
The S5 Pro features the same SuperCCD SR design sensor although now called ‘SR Pro’, it features 6.17 million ‘S photodiodes’ (normal DR) and 6.17 million ‘R photodiodes’ (highlight DR) for a total photodiode count of 12.34 million. Other improvements include the new body and all that includes; better AF, i-TTL flash, metering, Lithium-Ion battery, better DR control, up to ISO 3200 sensitivity and LAN / WiFi accessories. It will be available early 2007.

Samsung Unveils Samsung GX-10 DSLR
Samsung will launch the new GX-10 digital SLR; which has 10.2 mega pixel. Other key features include, dust-resistant CCD, optical image stabilization, 2.5-inch display, impenetrably built, resistant to water, sand, or other potentially harmful materials, one-touch RAW button, continuous shooting at 3 fps (frames per second). The Samsung GX-10 is expected to be available in October 2006.

LEICA DIGILUX 3 The digital system camera with traditional operating concept for individualists
Leica Camera AG, Solms is exhibiting the new LEICA DIGILUX 3 at photokina in Cologne (26th September to 1st October 2006). The LEICA DIGILUX 3 is the first purely digital Leica mirror reflex system camera with exchangeable lenses, thereby opening up a third variety of free-standing camera system under the Leica name. As the first model of the new Leica D system, the LEICA DIGILUX 3 is fitted with a bayonet lens to the FourThirds Standard, the open systems standard for digital mirror reflex cameras. Together with the high-performance LEICA D VARIO–ELMARIT 2.8-3.5/14-50 mm ASPH exchangeable lens with a focal length range of 28 to 100 millimetres for the small picture system, this offers the photographer many possibilities for composition of individual pictures.
