Canon Vixia HF10 Reviews

TrustedReviews reviews the Canon Vixia HF10 and writes:

Verdict: Without a doubt, the HF10 is the best AVCHD camcorder yet produced by any manufacturer. It’s not perfect in every respect, but it ticks more than enough boxes to be highly desirable as a serious video tool or point-and-shoot camcorder companion. With its excellent image quality, healthy range of manual controls, small size and keen price, the Canon HF10 is the high definition camcorder we have all been waiting for. ”

Digital Trends reviews the Canon Vixia HF10 and writes:

“I really liked using the HF10, once getting the hang of the menu system. Focusing was fast and crisp, ergonomics are terrific and it did an excellent job handling scenes taken outdoors…Pros:Takes beautiful 1920 x 1080i video outdoors, Stills are good too, Unbelievably light and compact. Cons:Eats batteries quickly, On screen menu not very intuitive, Mic doesn’t handle wind noise well ”

CamcorderInfo reviews the Canon Vixia HF10 and writes:

“The Canon Vixia HF10 is the first Canon camcorder to catch the wave of the future with recording to flash media. There are several benefits to flash media, including the speed, not worrying about damaging it with a drop, and the ease of popping out a memory card and transferring your clips to other devices. Also, the on-camera playback mode is mush faster and the battery time is increased.

I’ve owned/used the Vixia HF10 for about a month now. I am very please with it’s usability and features with exception of the following.

1. The camera has to be plugged into external power source in order to transfer files to the computer — regardless if the battery is fully charged. I previously owned a Sony camcorder (Hi8 tape) which recommended having camera plugged in but it was NOT mandatory. This is a huge disappointment because it removes the option of portability — being able to work in the field.

2. Audio for indoor use is great. But fo outdoor use, the wind noise is HORRIBLE. You can try to reduce the Mic level but then you lose everything else along with it. The camera should have a setting for shooting outdoors or include some sort of cover to reduce the wind noise.
