PC World has a review of the ASUS PG191 rated it 76/100 and writes;
“Each button offers varying and unique settings (and descriptions of those settings). Brightness controls are called ‘Splendid’. The five presets are scenery, standard, theater, game, and night view. The monitor also has five sound presets: standard (the quietest), fighting game mode, strategic game mode, music mode, and theater mode (the loudest)…The PG191’s image quality didn’t dazzle our judges, but the monitor did display text and graphics reasonably well. Text was easy to read at larger sizes, but became slightly blurry at a smaller 6 points. Colors looked bright, though other models produced more-realistic hues.”

Trusted Reviews has a review of the ASUS PG191 rated it 7/10 and writes;
“The sound quality from the speakers was actually one of the most impressive things about this display. It produced a fair old amount of volume and unplugging the subwoofer revealed just how much that contributed to filling in the sound. The SRS Surround also added a pleasing expansiveness to the sound though at the expense of accuracy. If you are mainly interested in gaming and don’t have the space for separate dedicated speakers this would do the job, and the easy access to the headphone socket is a boon too.”

Atomic MPC has a review of the ASUS PG191 and writes;
“On the sound side, it doesn’t take much to drive the poor little speakers into clipping and crackling as expected, but thanks to the built in subwoofer this is without doubt the single best built-in monitor speaker you’ll hear once you’ve tweaked the equaliser settings manually…Gaming was excellent, with Quake 4 revealing rich colours and the 2ms response time covered motion well.”

GoodGearGuide has a review of the ASUS PG191 rated it 3.5/5 and writes;
“We put the PG191 through its paces with an exhaustive series of tests using DisplayMate Video Edition. DisplayMate uses a wide range of test patterns to push a monitor to its limits and reveal any flaws. The geometry and distortion tests showed no problems at all, while the sharpness and resolution tests (used to check for problems when displaying fine patterns) were rendered excellently. The PG191 displayed the test patterns with clarity and precision. Colour and greyscale were equally good with nothing untoward to report. We were also impressed with the uniformity tests as we found no problems and no backlight bleeding issues.”

BiosMag has a review of the ASUS PG191 rated it 6.5/10 and writes;
“The sweet spot for consumers has become 19-inch LCDs. With such a small price delta between 17-inch and 19-inch models, there’s almost no reason not to go for more screen real estate. The only thing you’ll need to consider with ASUS’s PG191 is whether you want to pay extra for integrated speakers or whether you need a widescreen aspect ratio. If you’re dead set on a 4:3 unit, the PG191 is a unique choice for gaming - it’s relatively bright, has an amazingly fast 2ms pixel-response rating and the built-in speakers are good enough to replace low-end units. The only downside is that its image quality is middling at best, most noticeable when working within Windows rather than playing games. “
