Ascaron City Life 2008 Reviews

IT Reviews reviews the Ascaron City Life 2008 and writes;

“The trick is to ensure that local neighbourhoods have the correct balance of buildings to attract largely the same class, or at least classes that rub along okay with each other. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t give you a lot of instruction on the intricacies of how this is best achieved. The tutorial is next to useless, merely consisting of a few screens explaining the very basics.”

GadgetSpeak reviews the Ascaron City Life 2008 and writes;

“While the program’s interface is well set out as it combines a view of your city and the various tools available. It can become a little cluttered especially during the initial development stages as you select from the different types of buildings. Fortunately you can quickly clear away unwanted distractions. City Life 2008 has plenty going for it with a range of locations and scenarios that should keep you coming back for more. It lacks a little of the charm of the original Sim City but does not suffer too much by the way of comparison. Overall this is a good example of the genre of city management although there are some minor glitches. ”

Real Gamer reviews the Ascaron City Life 2008 and writes;

“Visually the game looks pretty good; some effects such as those used for fire don’t really fit with the look of the game and look like an after thought. Buildings look good but variation is a little limite…Overall City life 2008 should offer most a good challenge whilst staying accessible. The game should appeal to those who where disappointed with the simplistic approach of the latest SimCity game especially considering City Life’s budget price tag! All in all a solid city planning simulation!”

Acegamez reviews the Ascaron City Life 2008 and writes;

“The graphics are superb however - not as good as you might expect from the screenshots, but still very good. The screenshots give the indication of a day/night cycle and there is a sort of cycle in the game, but disappointingly and bizarrely it is left to you to click a dawn, day, night or dusk button to change the sky! Also there are no weather effects - it is always clear sky and sunny. However, buildings, cars, streets, environments and citizens are suitably detailed, birds occasionally fly over your city and water is reflective and realistic. A plane sometimes flies over too, casting an incredibly realistic shadow, although the actual plane cannot be seen - ever! ”

Boomtown reviews the Ascaron City Life 2008 and writes;

“This has been fairly difficult for me to review since it is possible to enjoy the game once you get into it. It’s a different type of City game to SimCity; this is more City management on a business side and what you have to learn. It’s not about making things look pretty. It’s about strategy and being one step ahead of your citizens to make sure you have what they need. There are less things to worry about, but what you do need to think about has a bigger impact than it would in SimCity. ”

Eurogamer reviews the Ascaron City Life 2008 and writes;

“And what should you be doing? Throwing up residential and business buildings so people will flock to your town and turn it into a metropolis. There’s also the service industry to consider, so electricity and waste management plants must be placed, along with medical facilities and shopping centres. Wherever these are lacking on the map, big icons are painted over the affected populous so it’s easy enough to keep things ticking over. Video clips also pop up letting you know about any overall problems, such as a lack of jobs for a certain social strata. ”

Gamespot reviews the Ascaron City Life 2008 and writes;

“City Life is an excellent franchise that has single-handedly proven the viability of the modern city-building sim. And the 2008 Edition is the best, most complete game in the series. But there just isn’t enough new content here to justify such a misleading name, let alone to make a purchase worthwhile–unless, of course, you’re a newcomer to the series and want to see what the fuss is about.”
