ABI reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“The bottom line is the 605 could be “the ultimate PMP”, but it needs a complete overhaul of the interface, making it more usable to the average consumer. I would only recommend this PMP for someone with above average knowledge of experience with gadgets and computers. It is definitely much less user friendly than what is on the market, but that said, it will make a very nice match for the portable video enthusiast.”

CEN reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“In the end, the crystal-clear screen and some tempting features make the 605 WiFi more attractive than the average personal media player, but I don’t expect many potential iPod users to cast Apple aside for it.”

PCWorld reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“At twice the screen size and five times the resolution of the video iPod, I loved watching video on the Archos 605 WiFi. With wireless connectivity and the optional DVR Station, you’ll never be short on video content–and it plays music, shows photos, and lets you surf the Web, too.”

TrustedReviews reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“The fact that you get 30GB of storage, a touch-sensitive 800 x 480 4.3in widescreen and Wi-Fi in a product costing less than £200 is amazing. Add in its wireless streaming, TV recording ability, good looks and ease of use and you’ve got a product that’s nothing short of miraculous.”

InfoSync reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“Pros: Great screen with polished new interface. Good video playback, with some interesting content options. Best-in-class Web browser. Cons: No transfer software, still. Wi-Fi can get sluggish. Buttons seemed wobbly, and we weren’t fond of the button layout.”

LaptopMag reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“Navigating the player’s animated icon-based interface with your finger is fairly easy; the stylus gives you better precision when clicking on Web links or list items….At $299 for the 30GB model (not including optional hardware and software), the Archos 605 WiFi is a hot portable media player, despite the pitfalls of CinemaNow ”

CNET reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“The good: With top-notch video resolution, incredible viewing angles, and integrated support for wireless movie downloads, the Archos 605 WiFi is the best of its breed. The bad: Battery life is only average. Many users will need to shell out extra for software and hardware accessories they’ll wish were included. The bottom line: The Archos 605 WiFi portable video player is one of the best mobile distractions money can buy. ”

CNET.Asia reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“The good: Sound quality; easy-to-use Web browser and interface; screen quality; virtual keyboard; PDF support; runs on Linux. The bad: Many features require additional payment; no FM radio; no slot for stylus. The bottom line: A terrific media player and a delight to use. The optional plugins should be included as standard, though. That aside, full video support, a fully functioning Web browser and the sharpest screen we’ve seen make this an absolute killer gadget and a media hoarder’s dream.”

Stuff.TV has a preview the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“And the web experience hasn’t just been improved visually – the 605 now supports flash video, meaning you can watch videos on sites like Youtube and, of course, Stuff.tv. We’re just hoping the Wi-Fi connection is a little less temperamental than the 604’s.”

ArchosLounge reviews the Archos 605 WiFi and writes;
“Then, one buys or not? If you have a compulsive need to sail on Internet where which you be and if you have some under with claquer in the shops of video to the request, do not hesitate any more! Archos proposes a completely elegant solution there to benefit bottom from its vidéos… After all, the business-plan is not idiotic, and that makes it possible to sell walkmans with large screen and connection wifi for the same tariff as a iPod. Remain to know if the customers will precipitate on the accessories, but my small finger says to me that yes!”

Love the specs on the 605 but would really like to add pdf-type functionality and have an all-in-one pocket rocket. Is it possible to load sunbird or another hdd-based calendaring app (maybe thru portableapps running under WINE)? Need to be able to add info on the spot, not when I get home and sync to the pc
Have been watching widgets but so far have not seen the calendar they promise to release. Need hdd based ’cause I can’t always count on access to a hot spot for web-based google/yahooo/etc calendars.
Any thoughts on this?
It does have pdf reader in it. However its difficult to read on it..the pdf reader could ve been better.
i just bought my archos 605wifi, i am still looking for a way to crack the opera and have it without paying.

Some nice features, but some glaring drawbacks.
Nice
1.Video/Photo quality
2.Interface
3.Wifi
Not Nice
1.Cannot play music and surf simultaneously!
2.Poor processor performance
3.Totally non-customizable. Cannot customize button actions, for instance, it would be nice to change the down arrow to “page down” when reading web pages.
4.Cannot play HDef video.
5.NEEDS BADLY to be open-sourced so the community can help Archos deliver a satisfactory product. Archos is missing the point of using open source. The community is your best friend!
I have only used it a couple days, but am already disappointed by the drawbacks.
La has cagado colega!! jajajajjaaj
