iPod Nano (3rd generation) Reviews
DigitalTrends reviews the Apple iPod Nano (8GB) and writes;
” Overall, the nano is awesome and would make a fantastic gift for techies and non-techies alike. It’s unlikely that you’d ever hear any complaint from someone given a new iPod nano. Conversely, you’re apt to hear lots of happy thank-yous. ”

LaptopMag reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
” The sound quality on our test tracks was very good, with no audible system noise. The included earbuds aren’t great, but we got excellent results by swapping in our Shure SE420 in-ear headphones. Our test videos of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Chappelle’s Show were adequately smooth on the small but brilliant two-inch LCD. Colors looked realistic enough, but the sharpness was really impressive, thanks to the 204-pixel-per-inch display. ”

RegHardware reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
” Yes, the new Nano fits into a pocket in a pair of jeans much easier than the older incarnation, but it’s still extremely susceptible to superficial damage. In addition, the inclusion of video is arguably a feature too far. The screen is really too small to watch. The only (slight) benefit is being to use the Nano as a player and watch the video on a bigger screen. So, we prefer the older Nano, to be truthful”

Unbeatable reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“The new iPod Nano has some great new features and a great new design, however some extra on-board memory would have put the icing on the cake as the stingy 4GB or 8GB does not allow room for movement. The only thing that disappointed us, so not a bad job from Apple.”

TrustedReviews reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“The design is absolutely lovely, the screen is excellent and the Cover Flow interface is an effective addition in terms of ease of use. Audiophiles will probably pass it by, as will feature fiends, but for the majority it’s a good player at a great price and another feather in the cap of Apple Inc.”

Apple iPod Nano (3rd generation) video review by Shinymedia;
CNET reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“The good: The third-generation iPod Nano offers crisp, bright video playback, an exceptionally thin all-metal body, above-average battery life, built-in games, and an advanced user interface. The bad: We’re not crazy about the wider body, the smaller scroll wheel, the lack of video output, and the average-sounding audio quality. The bottom line: The shape may have changed, but Apple’s relentless attention to detail remains. The third generation of the iPod Nano provides loads of entertainment for a down-to-earth price. ”

“What the Nano lacks in a few features and flexibility, though, it makes up for with its stylish flair. With the Nano, Apple delivers a highly capable, eye-catching media player, including great audio quality and a bright, high-resolution display for watching video.”

LordPercy reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“..audio quality of the new 3rd gen iPod Nano is exactly the same as the 2G, distinctly average..Video quality however is worth writing home about, the small 2″ screen may only have QVGA resolution but its is both very bright and vivid. ”

PlaylistMag reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“The iPod nano’s audio quality is comparable to that of the previous model, which is to say very good for a portable device but, as with all iPod models, limited by Apple’s earbuds. With better headphones, the higher the quality of audio files you feed the nano, the better it sounds.

CNET.UK reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“Apple’s new iPod nano seems to be drawing equal amounts of ire and admiration. Although we miss the slender form of the second-generation iPod nano, we feel the latest edition has more going for it than against it. At less than £100, the 4GB iPod nano offers one of the richest user experiences we’ve seen on an MP3 player”

ArtTechnica reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“on our nonaudiophile (but musically trained) ears, the second- and third-generation iPod nanos sounded exactly identical when playing the same songs at the same volume with the same equalizer settings (none) through the included Apple earbuds.”

CoolTechZone reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“As we mentioned above, the video quality is downright impressive, and we couldn’t ask for it to be any better. Equally, the photos looked just as amazing…Moreover, the audio quality is just about average. It’s evident that Apple’s iPods are successful because of their existing brand and perceived coolness factor, not for superior audio quality.”

PCMag reviews the Apple iPod Nano (3rd gen) and writes;
“Video looks amazing on the nano. You can choose to watch in full screen or widescreen, though most will prefer the latter…The screen maintains the same 320 by 240 pixel resolution as the video iPods (now called classics), but since it is 0.5 inches smaller, everything appears sharper.”

Modified rapture…
The new iPod was my first MP3 player purchase, last night. Considering all the ballyhoo about the superior User Interface design of Mac procustcs, I’m not really that impressed.
Most of the music I listen to is classical, and the whole MP3 industry needs to sort out some fundamental naming problems for classical tracks. For a 2CD-box containing one Mahler symphony, I have two “Albums”, one for “GustavMahler; Symphonie No. 2; Abbado, Chicago SO”, the other for “Mah; Sym 2; Abbado, Chicago SO”.
First requirement: a relational database with a single ID for each composer, work, conductor and orchestra. Preferably with each work categorised as Symphony, String Quartet, Opera, etc. etc and the ability to have a number and/or name - for “Manfred Symphony”, “Symphony No. 6″, and “Symphony No. 6 (’Pathetique’)”. Mafor benefit: only one person has to know how to spell “Schubert”. Ideally each language gets its own versions of names for both people and works.
Second requirement: recognition of CDs 1 and 2 as part of the same bloody album. I’m really looking forward to putting the Ring cycle on there.
Third requirement: a Work/Disc/track hierarchy, that deals with more than one work on the same CD and more than one CD for the same work. Then we can end those idiotic track titles like “Strauss (R), 4 Last Songs, Op. posth. - Im Abendrot” where everything except the song title is the same on the next track and there isn’t enough screen width to see the song titles. Oh, and then the addition of “Work” to the categories like “Album”, “Playlist” and so on.
The same kind of tripe is served up in Windows Media Player, but as I had to download a whole new 50 Mb app just to put CD tracks onto my iPod, Apple seem to have had the opportunity to do that “right thing” that they’re supposed to be experts at.
Back in the user interface of the player itself, if I’m playing an album in that old fashioned “track 1, then track 2, then track 3″ way, I often wonder what’s coming up next. That means: MENU click, move down to Music, and select it, move to/select Albums. Now find the album that’s currently playing (for which you have to remember what it’s called - there’s nothing else to tell you.
Select it, find the little icon that shows which track is playing, and then read the line below. Then repeat most of this tedious operation backwards to return to where you were. Back in the stone age, you just picked up the record sleeve and looked. But Apple decided to waste a huge chunk of screen space for the album cover piuc that I didn’t bother downloading. “Next: Ruhe, Meine Seele” - that’s all we need. (Some hope…)
I could go on. But next time I see one of those Steve Jobs videos with screaming fans hailing a new product, I’ll have a bucket of salt handy.
And another thing: That damnfool name “Owner’s ipod” - apparently I had one chance to change it and I’ve missed the boat. That’s a really CRASS piece of design.
You can change it.
In itunes, when your iPod is connected, you click your iPod name (”Owner’s iPod”) twice - NOT double click as some get confused with - and it should allow you to change the name of it.
& with the whole song naming thing; Why don’t you just rename the songs so YOU would recognise it.
to be honest, i havent seen any other mp3 player out there that has as many categories as an ipod. usually they’re just “album” and “artist” ¬_¬
but that’s just my input.
Peter
Before you go off on a rant just to make yourself feel better, make sure that you know what you’re talking about. There are so many inaccuracies in your post above that, if corrected, would show you how to do at least half of what you claim cannot be done.
* firstly, you launch into a diatribe about the “MP3 industry” and then impart your wisdom on relational databases. This is a not the place for that - this is a review on a particular iPod. Yes, I know the iPod plays MP3s, but so does a train carry people with shoes on - not the place to complain about shoes.
* You CAN tell iTunes that this is “disc x of y” - it will then be stored in the MP3 file for all eternity, so you don’t have to worry.
* You DON’T have to go right to the root menu to see what’s playing. Once press of the menu button, and you’ll see all the tracks on the playing album…
* … and the one you’re listening to DOES have a little speaker next to it to show you that it’s now playing.
If you think you only had one opportunity to name the thing, you’re also wrong.
You could go on? Spare us - rather learn a thing or two before opening your mouth, please.
Mine was a birthday present, and my mom bought it online September 9th. I got it a few days later, but it didn’t work properly so I had to send it back; the second one they sent me did the same thing, so it was my computer — and later, I realized, my USB port — that had the problem. I was pissed about the wait but their customer service was great, this lady named Julie called my house every few days to let me know what was going on. They’re sending me a free case for “my troubles” too, which is nice.
As far as the actual iPod goes, it’s my first too, and I’ve put about 700 songs on there. I’ve had trouble enabling it for disk use, but I guess I’m just not doing it right. And it really sucks that to really enjoy “Cover Flow” I have to find hundreds of album covers online to make it look pretty. Oh, and my battery is not long-lived at all (but it’s a quick recharge).
Besides that, I like it; Apple products are usually very user-friendly and accessible.
Hi I have just bought the new nano (3rd generation) and having problems do you have the telephone number of Julie? I loaded up all my songs, downloaded the new updated and it crashed now I cannot get it to work
This happened to me also . You just connect the ipod to the pc and itunes will handle the rest of it
Am I to understand that the 3rd Gen Nano does not work with Tiger OS? I got one and it will not work on my iBook (system 10.3, it needs 10.4 or higher) when I tried to DL 10.4 my iBook would not do that either! Am I SOL until I buy Leopard??

zak
u should download a converter…which converts any file into wma or quickplay format and then get it onto the ipod
you just have to drag the files into the itunes list,then voela
This ipod is really awesome. The only problem i hadwith this one is the fact that after a week or so the click wheel became a little loose. not really a big deal but i just though i’d say so. I also had another problem a while back that when i opened up cover flow the covers were just pink fuzz. so i plugged it into my computer and there was an update for that problem and a few others. it went away though.i liked the battery life. 24 long hours of music and 5 hours of straight video. It is so small to play video! overall great product. I give it a 7.5 out of ten.
My daughter received a 3rd generation ipod nano 8 gb for Christmas. It worked fine for a few days and now the video displays colors negatively. Looks somewhat like an infrared image. We tried resetting to the apple logo, hooking back up to the computer to reset to factory settings and the fix works momentarily. It reverts back to this reversed color scheme. Any help or insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Click and hold the MENU and CENTRE button at the same time, when the iPod screen goes black quickly press and hold the CENTRE and REWIND button. You can change your iPod video settings there. To get out of the green diagnostic screen press and hold the MENU and CENTRE button again.
omg i did that it was rele scary dont do that unless u no wut ur doing
I read your comment and it helped me to get my iPod working again. It has been stuck for days and I have not been able to figure it out and I couldn’t find my manual. Thanks for your instructions! Now I have my music back :)

Peter Biddlecombe, maybe you should stick to vinyl mate.
Firstly, would I be right in saying that most classical music has been put on cd several times by different orchestras/artists etc over the years?
Do you really expect someone to catalogue all that?
What’s so hard about just right clicking and then clicking ‘get info’ where you can edit all the details you want, including the ability to put two cds into one album.
I’m not defending apple here by any means since I have seen itunes do some pretty freaky stuff with my libary including putting all the tracks on one album back to front.
But at the end of the day, it’s all editable.
Secondly, I don’t know what the crap you are taling about when you say it’s hard to find out which track is currently playing.
For a start, who cares????
You can find out what’s next by simply waiting for the current track to finish or even just by press right on the wheel.
It may have been easier to find the track listing on with cds but then, who wants to carry a rucksack full of fecking cds around with them?
The nano is a great projuct, stop whining about every stupid little fault you think you’ve found.
I have only had the nano 3rd generation for less than a month and it very often decides it wants to skip to the next track randomly, and sometimes it just won’t play the song, even though it loads the song, it just won’t play it. Kind of dissapointing since I can’t just listen to 5 minutes of music without it skipping to the next track or just quitting all together
If you could help me out please email me dixon.tm@gmail.com
thanks
HELP ME PLEASE!!!

connect ur ipod to itunes and click restore this should reset it back to 0000
I’ve had this 8gb nano for a week before it decided to completely die on me. It won’t reset, charge or even respond at all.
I really expected a better product from apple.
Same thing happened to me. I returned it and got a new one. Same thing happened again. Just left it this time and weirdly enough after about 8 months I went back to it and plugged it into the computer, and it magically worked again. I’m not sure how it happened.
if your ipod crashes all you have to do is press both the center button and menu at the same time and i resets everything (will not erase) and will work just fine
Wow.
That’s all I have to say.
I’ve owned the previous version of the iPod nano and I disliked the boring display and blocky body design. It also lacked Coverflow, a reasonable screen resolution, maybe a little color instead of just blue and white.
But the 3rd Gen. iPod nano caught my eye and I basically fell in love with it.
It’s got a very bright screen, great for people who don’t have the best of vision. But it can be bad for battery life. Secondly, the Coverflow feature is second from AMAZING. It keeps all my music organized in a very appealing way. MUCH better than going through a list of songs. So it’s good if you have a TON of music like me. The iPod is kind of confusing if you’ve never had one before, so a lot of people claim it’s “broken” when all it needs is to be reset. iTunes and the iPod also work perfectly in sync. It’s easy to figure out how to sync the iPod and you’ve got loads of options with easy navigation. The Apple Customer Support line is very helpful as well if you’ve got any questions.
I would totally recommend this MP3 player over anything else. iPod > Zune
i have just got an 3rd gen nano and do not have the manual starter book,
can anyone tell me how to put videos on it??
hey umm i got the ipod (3rd gen.) for my birthday, and i just cant seem to be able to put any videos on it… can someone tell me how??? plz?
Use file to add file to library. Once you get a video into the movie folder, then you have to right click and convert it to ipod style. It took me forever to get it right.
I have the iPod Nano 4GB model, its a very nice little music player, it lasts the whole day, and it does what I tell it to do. however, I prefer having my songs on repeat, hence why the playcount is 756 on “LinkinPark - Breaking The Habbit” but after a few times on repeat my iPod will freeze, every time I plug it into my computer it will freeze, I have heard a lot of people having the same problem and I would like to know if anyone knows of any type of bug fix. my iPod is upgraded to the latest software and everyday I synchronize it I will constantly check for an update and there still is no more fixes. if anyone at all knows of anything to resolve this then please reply to this. thankyou
I just downloaded 493 songs to my ipod nano 3rd generation and as soon as it was done it said it was ok to disconnect. Well the bar went across and then is disconnected me from itunes and then the apple logo screen just keeps going off and on and i can’t do anything. I have even tried resetting it, but nothing.
i revently got the new ipod from Apple and its lovely. the only thing is, it bugs me when i cant put my music videos and such onto it because it only takes MP4 format. does anyone know where i can get software to convert files or something along these lines?
thank you!
I have an ipod 3rd generation, i was wondering if a radio is on it. Please tell me if im a complete idiot or there actually is one

hi..let me know how to get the games from pc to ipod nano-3rd generation–{free games}…and let me know the link for free games n all plzzzz
the iPod nano is useless where games are concerned. There are no free games available for downloads, all need to be purchased from apple
I’ve had my Ipod Nano 3rd Gen. for around a year. I love this thing. It’s my first Ipod, but I’ve had mp3 players before. Some simple things that annoy me personally: the battery life. I lasts FOREVER on certain occasions, and the next, it last for an hour. It may just be where I charge it at, my Ipod dock usually charges it better than my USB port. Also, if I want to use my friend’s Itunes, I usually can’t because they have to have a certain version of a newer Itunes; most of my friends have the 2nd Gen. Ipod. Also, I didn’t have the internet for awhile; how was a supposed to get Itunes? Thankfully, my parents caved fpr the internet, but before then, I was stuck with no music and a useless Ipod. Last thing: while playing “Klondike” on my Ipod, if I search through songs, then my Ipod resets, I lose all my settings, and any current playlists I had not saved. These are all very easily fixed things, though, and other than that, I am pleased with my Ipod.
I just bought my ipod i got 200 songs on it (ipod 4gig 3rd gen.) i got all my songs of limewire and i also got some videos off limewire to go to itunes i saw the videos on the itunes library but when i drag it to my ipod it tells me my video can not be played on this ipod????
Can anyone HELP?????
well here’s the thing. i got the third generation iPod for christmas last year and had it for about 6-8 months. then it was washed. i put it in rice for like 2 months and nothing ; it still doesn’t work, i would like to know if anyone know any repair work that could be done so i don’t have to but a brand new one. i will try almost anything. thank you.
someone,
help me…
i bought my ipod few months back and i just started to explore it recently..
so, when i was exploring, i accidentally press the lock screen button and it requires me to enter the right password…
and.. i dont know wats the password or the number combination..
how could i solve thiss?
i’d press the menu and centre button and stuff (as wat it should be done wen the pod isnt rsponding), but it didnt work..
so, somebody, plz help me..
thanks lot..
ok first of all this is the easiest thing to fix in the world.
ok step 1 plug your ipod into the computor and itunes will unlock it automaticly if that doesnt work restore it.
What a great iPod! This is the best I have seen yet! I run an online business called “iPod Ideas” at http://www.ipodideas.webs.com that supports hacking the iPod. This is the best video ipod I have ever used! I hack iPods for fun and this one is potentially harder to hack. I have only experienced 1 problem and it was from the firmware. Otherwise, congrats apple! You have found your bestseller!
Does anyone know how many hours a full battery could cover for the third generation iPod Nano?
I HAVE A IPOD 3RD GEN NANO 4GB, PLEASE TELL ME HOW I PUT GAME ON IT OR HOW I INSTALL GAMES IN MY I POD
