Apple iPhone 4G previews

Boy Genious Report previews the Apple iPhone 4G and writes;

“There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone).. “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking…”

CNET previews the Apple iPhone 4G and writes;

“I’m not sure Apple needs to answer to the smaller form factor of the Palm Pre, but there are some people out there who think the iPhone’s just a tad too big. And there are some people who want a physical keyboard, but don’t count on Apple slipping in a slide-out keyboard anytime soon…”

Letsgodigital previews the Apple iPhone 4G and writes;

“One of the possibilities that a 4G iPhone with RFID function could have, is as a form of payment. One application of RFID is called Near Field Communication, NFC, an intelligent form of RFID. NFC is a communication method which does not require contact, while it uses a high frequency at a short distance (10cm). The difference between that and RFID, is the fact that NFC works in two directions, meaning it can both store and send.”

actually, NFC is not a bi-directional technology. It’s one way passive RFID. The author probably meant to say that a phone can have an NFC “tag” on the device, that is read by other NFC readers, like at a supermarket point of sale, or that it can have an NFC “reader” on the device, that allows it to read other NFC tags, say a message on a movie poster. This of course requires you to be EXTREMELY CLOSE to the object you are reading — 10 centimeters at best, but usually 1 or 2 centimeters in my experience. A more robust two-way RFID technology that is compatible with NFC and can ride on the same silicon is DASH7 (www.dash7.org) and hopefully Apple and others are moving in this direction to unleash the app hounds waiting for this capability.
